newbie looking for advice and suggestions on gaming/music headphones !!

hello head - fi!! I am very new here so forgive me if I wont understand much. and forgive me for not speaking English fluently( not my 1st language :( )

I am looking for headphones that is good for gaming and music. I used to have the turtle beach DX11 but the headset broke ( I still have the dss though) and am now looking for headphones that's good for gaming and music ! price range preferably around 100-200$ but would stretch to 250$ if its very worth it. I listen to hiphop , pop , RNB and a bit of rock music. mic is optional( preferably no mic since I already have one separately) . I have a working turtle beach DSS if it matters and I would rather not buy an amplifier or a new sound card for my PC if possible(see, im not that very techie and would rather not tamper with my PC's stuff and would rather not pay the closest PC store 60$ just for installation labor =\ ) but if there would be a significant difference I would consider it.

I have done abit of research and these headphones seem good. I am open for other suggestions though :

-sennheiser HD 598 ( had very good reviews but still am not sure)

-sennheiser HD 558 ( also good reviews and according to some people is very close to the HD598 but cheaper)

-sennheiser PC 360 ( built for gaming but I don't think I will need the mic)

-BeyerDynamic DT 770 ( good reviews, closed back which is kind of convenient since I can use it outdoors )

-BeyerDynamic DT 990 ( good reviews)

-Philips Fidelio x1 ( expensive but I  like the style and seems to have good reviews.)

-SteelSeries Siberia v2 ( seemed to have good reviews but I read in some threads that sound quality isn't that great)

-SteelSeries 9H

-Audio-Technica ath m50/m50x ( sooOOo many good reviews but I heard its not that good with surround sound gaming. would b e nice when I go outdoors though)

please do help me. I have lurked in these forums long enough and would like suggestions and opinions !! thanks!!

Audio Technica ATH AD-700 is an option.

So is the AKG Q701

These are very neutral headphones that don't contain a lot of bass, so most of your music might sound a bit unexciting.

I can't give you many recommendations, but I can remove some from the list.

I wouldn't recomment the HD598 for your music preferences, and therefore the 558 (if they are indeed similar).

The PC360 is not worth in my opinion. No option in the PC line by Senn is that worth (my opinion).

DT770 closed headphones are not as great for gaming as open headphones, since open headphones have a larger soundstage.

All gaming headsets aren't that great for music (or are not worth) either so the Steelseries headsets are out.

The M50 is closed as well, won't have a large soundstage. There are a lot of good reviews, but if you look at the bad ones, you'll see a lot of people think that it is over hyped.

On this site I would pay attention to the negative reviews more than the positive ones. A lot of the negative reviews come from people who have owned a lot of headphones, and have experienced a lot of setups. Most people buy something, and want to write a glowing review to defend their purchase; a sort of bias.

All in all, if you want something for gaming, use open for soundstage, unless you're playing a game that doesn't really require it like a MOBA or RTS. I've removed a lot of options based on the assumption that you are playing FPS, but you haven't specified what games you are playing. If you are not playing FPS, the opions open up quite a bit.

actually I do play RTS/MOBA/MMORPG kinds of games on my PC,FPS not so much. and for my music preferences , an "OK" bass would be enough for me, my brother has those beats pros and I dislike the bass on those =\.

also my priority would lean more on gaming than music. if that helps

That widens the range a lot.

To be honest, you could get anything that is getting good reviews and that you feel is worth. Beats are very bassy that bleeds everywhere.

Would you prefer open or closed?

If open, the K701/Q701 (Q701 is a bit more bassy than the K701) by AKG are excellent offerings that I think are very good especially for the price,

Closed, the Shure SRH-840 is pretty damn good for the price. Under $200, I don't see many options better than the 840.

All of the headphones above don't need amping, but most of the time, full sized headhones benefit from amping.

Sorry, I've never heard it or read anything about it. It does have quite a following on this site so you can just check the Equipment Forum for more information, or check out the product reviews by other users
