Recommendations for $60 public headphones?

I'm looking for a pair of headphones for just listening to music when I'm about, e.g. At school. I would prefer they not be huge but it isn't a requirement. The only restriction is earbuds, can't stand em. Thanks for your time.

What sort of music do you like?

Mainly metal and rock (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc.), a bit of dubstep but not much anymore.

Metallica was always my favorite group; Mustaine, my favorite metal player. He's actually an interesting guy.

You need a closed model for the noise isolation. If it were open, I'd say used Grados, no question.

But for closed, I don't know what to recommend at that price. This model http://www.head-fi.org/t/654946/tascam-th-02-headphones-waiting-to-be-discovered-now-appreciation-thread caught my attention, as did these http://www.head-fi.org/t/585356/the-takstar-technical-pro-gemini-greathon-thread. But you should ask on those thread how they sound for metal.

Maybe HA-S500, which is on ear, but I found the bass to be too much though I prefer a bass light sound. So ask about those too.

Don't buy a cheap pair of Audio Technicas. Having heard the more expensive ones (of the same line), I expect they don't have the treble needed to pick up guitar solos.

Thanks for the recommendation. I think I'm gonna go with the TASCAM TH02. The thread seemed to agree it was a quality pair, they look nice, and for the price I think they'd be hard to beat.

I hope you like them. Please post your findings to help others. gs1000.gif
