The HD558 and HD598 (not HD998?) use the same driver.

Amazon sells used HD558s for $94

Both the Xonar DG and SB-Z can drive the 50-Ohm HD558.

The SB-Z's CS4398 DAC chip is better then the DG's CS4245 DAC chip.

I personally like the Xonar control panel, over the Sound Blaster Z's.

I would guess(?) the SB-Z SBX Headphone surround sound is a little better then the DG's Dolby Headphone.

So the SB-Z might be better for FPS gaming.

Just got my sennheiser 558's and a Xonar dg, and installed the DG and the drivers. Is there a way to make them louder? I am running it at 100% volume and it's not at what i consider "normal volume levels". Do i need to change settings to make it louder, or is the sound card just not good enough to power them? I am reading on google, and it says that you can change the ohms to make it louder, how would i do that?

Did you disable the motherboard's on-board audio? in the BIOS

Did you set the HP Advanced Setting to Exciter Mode (>64-Ohm)?

(Page 24 of the manual)

Try installing these third party drivers.
