Great find! That looks very promising, I will try to win one of their auctions.

Edit. The seller seems to be out of those batteries.... damn!

Ok, I sent the seller a message and he contacted me back quickly.

I bought two kits from his for $55 USD shipped. I guess we can get just the battery for less money but I wanted the whole kits.

See picture below of how the setup is.

(He also sent me a word document explaining how to do this and he offers the SSD and extended battery conversion for reasonable prices, pm me if you want me to email the document to you)

This is interesting, i hope it works. I bought the Volta to test it with the TeraPod. It works well as a portable charger, but not as an extended life battery so much.

I'm just glad I was able to find something useful to the community. Only time will tell if it will work out as well as I hope. I'm also ordering a couple from him so that I can do some testing and just purchased 2 more iPods to play around with. If I get any positive outlook after testing, I'll post some results on here!

My old 5.5G is dead but thankfully I bought my daughter another one, she has an iPod touch now so she could care less about the old iPod.  Well thank you!

I've heard every generation of iPod, iTouch, iPhone and several other players not Apple.  The 5.5 with Rockbox (can't beat that Wolfson DAC) is still my favorite.

Been playing with this since yesterday.

The battery kit worked great on the 7th gen gb 160gb stock iPod, just remove the thin back cover and install this one and voila!

The challenge with the mSATA ipods is that the current adapter we get from China raises the mSATA card too high and the card/adapter hits the 2000 mAh battery and the iPOd doesn't close.

I have one of the BETA testing Tarkan adapters and that one has a lower profile and the iPod closes with the mAh battery just fine.

(note that I am using the fat back cover in all iPod tests)

See teaser picture below.

Card used for now is my trusty Sandisk 24gb mSATA card, the Crucial 256 m4 card bit the dust...

cmarti,

Thank you for your update!

Have you tried Tarkan's new adapter and 480GB mSATA SSD in a BW-patched Rockbox 5.5 gen? I know Tarkan said the new adapter may not be as stable in 5.5 gen, but it may be worth a try?

Also is that 2000 mAh battery compatible with 5.5 gen? If yes, I will buy one and would like to see that email instruction. Thank you!

I tried it and it went into a restore loop, was able to boot one time and install RockBox and the patch but the Ipod froze and never boot again after going into the restore loop again  and again.

The battery works on the 5th gen iPod but only if you have a slim hard drive, there's not enough room when you use mSATA or CF cards.

PM me you email address and I will send you the word document.

Hmm, is that what Tarkan meant by "less stable" on 5.5 gen? From your post at the other thread, it sounds like Tarkan's (beta) new adapter currently does not work with 480GB SSD in 7 gen either. I hope Tarkan can resolve those issues before officially releasing his new adapter?

I have no problem buying a 7 gen and load unofficial Rockbox and Tarkan's new adapter to it, as long as 1TB mSATA SSD and 2000 mAh battery work there.

Thank you cmarti!

Thank you cmarti!

I ordered a 500g Samsung EVO last night to test it with the iPod Classic and Tarkan's adapter. Didn't order the 1TB card because I think I read somewhere that it is actually thicker than the other cards and I would like my iPod setup with the 2000mAh battery. The battery works great, the alleged run time is 100 hours with stock hard drive.

My latest build was a gen 5.5 thin 1T samsung EVO with a 650mah battery. It runs wonderfully. I was skeptical that a 650mah could adequately power the TeraPod, but it has not problem running for at least 8 hours. I have not tested it beyound the 8 hr limit - my flight to Germany - as i didn't want to press my luck. The chip is thin enough to fit in the thin iPod, and i can only imagine it would be fine in your thick version.

So you think the 1tb card has the same thickness as the 500gb one? I can still cancel the order and get the 1tb one.

Dude, my TeraPod is the bomb. Seriously, i built two: one as my main and one as a backup. I have over 150k songs on the TeraPod. It goes everywhere with me. When I loaded the second one, I formated it on ny Windows7 machine, which allowed me to load the music onto the chip outside the ipod. I built the whole thing loaded with 600g in less than an hour.

Prices are dropping and i paid a bunch. But if I had it to do again - i would.
