First of all: Great community here. Have been reading and learning tons the last couple of days and got lost more than once in a 100+ monster thread (such as the Aune t1 thread).
I recently switched to a MacBook Pro and found my old Sennheiser HD595s and am sort of rediscovering my music collection (mostly Alternative and Classic Rock). I'm currently in the process of ripping the whole mess to FLAC. Now I'm hoping to take the next step up with a dedicated headphone amp/DAC.
I almost pulled the trigger on the Magni/Modi as a lot of people here seem to be loving those. It doesn't hurt that the stack looks great, too. The only downside of that stack is that it doesn't have a lot of features. I was hoping for a solution that would let me switch to my Audioengine A2 speakers at the push of a button. I almost resigned to the M/M and just unplugging cables every time I switch when I came across the Aune X1 MK2.
Unfortunately, I can't find a lot of reviews on the X1 MK2 and how it compares to M/M. The X1 does have line out and a button for switching, so it would check that box. I'm just not sure how it compares to M/M in terms of sound quality and how well it pairs with certain headphones. There seem to be tons of people who own and love the t1. The X1, not so much. So I wonder: Anyone here who has any thoughts on the Aune X1 MK2? The Fostex HP-A4 also does everything I want, but at $400, it'd be really stretching my budget. I'm also open to any other suggestions for a DAC/amp in the $300 range. I would first use it with my HD595s and AKG171, but I'll also buy new headphones soon. Currently looking at the AKG K702.
