I'm looking for the best Amp/DAC combo for the AKG Q701 that are no more than $300 total (including shipping). I have never owned or tried a headphone amp so this will be my first. Because the treble of Q701's are ear-piercing at times for classic rock (through my laptop, so it's kind of unfair for me to judge it without a decent amp/dac), I'm guessing a tube amp will work the best. After long hours of research I narrowed it down to these options: (prices are total in Canadian dollars)
-Schiit Vali + Modi DAC (Very interested in this combo but I'm worried they won't give me enough of the tube sound) = $284.58 CAD
-Little Dot I+ + Modi DAC (Might have to change out the stock tubes because I heard they can be improved) = $282.53 CAD
-Aune T1 Tube USB DAC = Can get for $160 CAD, otherwise $210.49 CAD.
Any help choosing the right combo will be greatly appreciated!
I listen to most genres. I will only be using the Q701s with genres such as classic rock, soft rock, jazz, country and acoustic music. I also got myself a V-Moda M-100 because I also listen to lots of rap/hip hop and EDM.
