Hello headfiers. Ive been doing my audio research for the past 6 months via this website and found it to extremely helpful and even possibly the best source available. As far as headphones, my audio obsession began with klipsch s4, then audio technica m50s (thanks head fi community i love em for the price) and now a big jump to hd800. Im looking for the best amp and dac combo i can find for these cans in the price range of $1000 to $1500. Id prefer amp and dac to be seperate but will consider all in ones such as wa7 fireflies. My front runner is woo audio wa2 with schiit bifrost dac. Pushing my budget a little but not too much smily_headphones1.gif. Any other suggestions? Also has anyone listened to The Dna sonnett? Yes i prefer tube amps but appreciate any and all suggestions thAnks!

I think the WA2 and bifrost will be awesome.

I assume you mean the Uber version of the Bifrost?

I have not used Schiit products myself, but many people around here really enjoy their high build quality, great customer service, and sleek designs.  I read a ton of positive reviews about Schiit products and this is what lead me to reinforce your choices.

I do have experience with Woo Audio products especially with Sennheiser HD headphones and have not trouble recommending them for the headphone section of your setup.

Personally I like the Grace m903 with the HD800, but that is outside of your price range and honestly not necessary if you do not need all of the inputs/outputs.

Check out Audio-GD, I just bought one of their $300 NFB-15.32 DAC/amps (and that is their cheapest DAC/amp).

Ever try headroom amps? My Headroom Ultra Desktop Amp drives the HD800's *beautifully*. A lot of power and takes the edge off the sibilance the HD800's can have when improperly amp'd.

Great suggestion, but they no longer make them and support for them including replacement parts will become more scarce over time.  I own a Headroom BUDA and absolutely love it, but there are other good amps currently in production that would be covered under a longer warranty.

IMO they're pretty reliable (I have a Ultra DAC/Ultra non-balanced AMP/Balanced Amp stack) and haven't had any issues. And they charge less than $100 for repairs usually if its out of warranty (haven't had to do that yet). All you pay is shipping to Bozeman, MT.
