Brand new Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250Ω highs too sharp?

I just got my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250Ω today, and hooked it up to my Focusrite 2i4 audio interface.

First things that caught my attention is that the high frequencies (sibilance) on this headphone are pretty damn sharp and sometimes annoying in almost every song (I listen to HipHop mostly).

My question is, is it due to the fact that I am not powering it fully (no Amp) or that I haven't burned them in yet, or a mixture of both?

Or is this just really the true sound of how these tracks really sound?

Regards,

Welcome to the club.

I got my T 90 four days ago and I was in the exact same situation. Just give it some time, maybe HPburn in helps or just brain burn in really.

Don't do A/B testing with your favorite old headphones. With time, you might appreciate them more.

Beyerdynamic school of sound is known to favor brightness and emphasis on high frequencies, as far as I know.

And yes,  more sibilant recordings will be reproduces with more sibilance (in and out).

Only thing you can do is get used to it, or EQing between 6 - 9 KHz may help.

As far as settings go, I can't really help you with that.

Good Luck

Only thing I am really concerned about is if this the true representation of the sound.

I can't really blast these right now because the high freqs get so annoying and painful quickly.

I hope it will get less harsh after burning them in (which I doubt it will) or after hooking it up to an amp.

A close to uncolored sound reproduction is pretty important as I will use these for mixing.

I have DT770-250 as well, I suppose that the 10khz peak is what is bothering you? EQ it down, or try getting another DT770-250. It could be that the one that you got in particular has a stronger treble peak than usual.
I'm okay with it on mine, it's not that bad.

Is it a true representation of sound? I'd say that it is close.
