So i just received my awesome ATH M50x headphones. My first decent pair of cans and wanna get the most out of them without denting my wallet to much. Im a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff so bear with me. Im using these for producing electronic music on my desktop. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229362     I wanna get a soundcard or an amp(dont know which would be better for my situation) that'll give them better quality regardless of the source. I dont wanna spend $200 if a $50 dollar soundcard can power them to their potential just the same. Open to alternative options that i may not know of. Thank you all in advance for you suggestions. (If i get any)

I would have assumed the ATH-M50X headphones would be too bassy for audio production?

Asus xonar DG or DGX sound card, $30-$40.

Creative Sound Blaster Z sound card, $75.

Used Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card off eBay, $110-$150.

Remember to disable the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIOS, when you install a sound card.

So im guessing the Asus Xonar Essence STX would power them the best or would the Asus xonar DG DGXe power them just the same? Which one would you recommend for what im doing and my equipment. And clear bassy headphones are actually what i need for house music as its bass heavy.Of course not to the point where it distorts the other frequencies *cough* beats *cough*

By the way thanks you were already a big help

The Essence STX has the best DAC chip (PCM1792A) and a better headphone amplifier, then the other two.

To me, the ATH-M50Xs are not usually the kind of headphones that you want to spend a lot on for a DAC/Amp.

The Xonar DG is $28 and there is a $10 mail in rebate, until the 28th.
