Carrying Cases For Headphones

What is a good place brand for getting a headphone case? I have HD580's, and I'd like to find a hard case with foam inside to protect and transport them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The best "money is no object" case for this application the pelican. Its even water-proof

What would be really nice is a case that's almost headphone-shaped (rectangular in cross-section but like a nose in profile) that you can use as a storage case to throw in your backpack. That would make the A-T's, HD600, etc more 'portable'.

What Pelican model would fit the HD580's? I've looked online and it seems that the 1400 model would be the best size. Though the 1200 is way cheaper, but I think it would be too much of a tight fit... Does anyone actually use a Pelican for their headphones?

I use the Pelican 1200 models for Senn HD 600 and Grado RS 1 storage. It is a good, snug fit for the Senns, but does no harm.

If it doesn't have to be a hard case, you might look at some of the headset bags that pilots use to carry their headsets. Google for pilot headsets and you'll get a bunch of places that sell them online.

rickfri: Do you have a picture of just how snugly the hd600s/580s fit into a Pelican 1200? I looked at the dimensions online and using a measuring tape it looked as if the headphones would fit waay too snugly.

mojoman: Thanks, but I'm looking for a hard case because I want to make sure they won't get smashed or anything when I travel. A soft case would be fine for using at home, but for transporting the headphones I'd like more protection.

Oooohhh... Nice! How did you make the bottom part with the headphone shape and the red cloth thing?

I'm sure we all have cases like that but something more portable is certainly what I'm looking out for. The cardbox that the ATH-D1000 is stored and sometimes transported in? An MDR-V500DJ box. It's the most useful thing I've had out of the V500 package...

Where did you get the square case in the middle from? I've been looking for square cases but have had no luck.

That's the factory case that comes with Stax SR-007s (Omega IIs). Unless you can buy it separately from Stax, I don't think you'll find one just floating about in the For Sale forum.

As for square cases, in general, I've noticed that a lot of DJ equipment cases seem to be squarish. A good example is the Numark LP-80 vinyl LP carrying case. Numark also seems to make other cases in that style.

Otherwise, I'm also firmly in the Pelican camp. I've used Pelican cases to keep everything from food to computers to ammunition safe from physical abuse, the environment, and predators. Other than Zero Halliburton products, I can't think of anything that's much tougher.

Alright, thanks!

Has anyone tried out Plasticase cases? (http://www.plasticase.com)

Sorry, can't post pictures of the Pelican 1200, don't have a digital camera. The width and length are are an almost perfect fit. When you close the case you are compressing foam, but not by much. I like the snugness, so that the phones don't move around. You can fit a set of 600's with a Cardas phone cord in, I don't know about other after market cables, don't know how stiff the others are.

If you go to shops that sell tabletop miniatures like Warhammer (40K), Morheim, Lord of the Rings etc, they do have transport cases for the miniatures. I know that Games Workshop sells a reasonably large case similar in build to some Pelicans for just SGD80. That's just USD50.
All you have to do is replace the pre-cut foam inside with foam cut to fit your headphones and cables and/ or small amp. No pressure release seals on them though. But I doubt that's an issue.
