Nice😄

Welp, KC06 sounds more open to my ears than the ER4S, no less refined. The unevenness of the ER4S' mids also bugs me, with that 2.5k spike in the upper mids that really makes everything below it suffer IMO.

Detail levels are similar, timbre is better on the KC06, and the KC06 extends lower than the ER4S.

This is from a 10 min A/B, so YMMV.

Also, I just found tip perfection for the KC06. I'm using the extra long single flange tips from the Meelec M11+ tip pack.

The KC06 rumbles very deep. I was certainly impressed.

I find ER-4S treble timbre to be perhaps one of the best, if not the best I've heard, and treble isn't exactly the kc06 strength but it's not bad either.

Personally I find the ER-4S midrange much more revealing and transparent, but for me that's really neither here nor there when talking KC06 mids. I just find the KC06 mids oh so buttery smooth, engaging and musical. A completely different approach that works just as well. Perhaps addicting is an appropriate description, as they are very good at getting you lost in the moment of the music.

I dunno, sgs. I know we hear/appreciate the ER4S' key characteristic (the upper mid boost) quite differently. For me it just throws things off, but it does contribute to great clarity. I remember saying once that I actually think the ER4S is quite colored. That upper mid spike is the main offender.

Nice bass, not bass shy at all, possibly more punchy than the Tenore's. Vocals are quite amazing, might be the highlight. Treble is quite extended, wouldn't want any more. Bigger stage over the Tenore but I'll have to properly a/b the two to be sure. Very impressive sound and it's right up there with the Tenore's.

danny, you owned the re-400, right? do you consider the ostry to be better overall?

The RE-400's were the only Hifiman I didn't find that great. Something about the vocals that I didn't care for. I do like the Ostry's more.

wasn't the midrange considered the high point of the re-400's? haha. i do like them and i do have the aurisonics rockets coming in whenever they're finished but i'm kinda getting impatient and want something to bridge the gap and i thought the ostry's seemed interesting but not sure if it'd be worth it. probably should stand pat.

I loved the RE-272's vocals and would still consider them a reference point. RE-262's were good but too forward. Didn't really care for RE0. HE-500's were amazing, HE-400's pretty good. RE-400's weren't that bad but had some peakiness that didn't suit me well. I found them a tad boring too. If you have other phones that's on par or better than the Ostry's and don't wanna spend for them, skip it. You have the Rockets coming in anyway. My opinion is that the Ostry's are worth the $60 and more from what I'm hearing. To me that's a small sum for this type of sound.
