no one on the re-400 vs. ostry kc06 debate?

I still haven't gotten my balanced re400 back from being re-terminated. Looks like I won't have it back for another 2 weeks.

Edit: and as soon as I press submit, I get a shipping notification.

EDIT: In other words, it lacks the "dimensionality" of higher end sets. See: GR07.

Any similarities and/or differences with GR07? Which GR07 version are you referring? First, second, BE?

All of them, really. The Achilles Heel of the GR07 was its soundstage proportions.

Don't know about the RE400, but I just got my RE600 back from the loan tour. By and large, I stand by my earlier impressions that the RE600 have a slight edge in the mids over the KC06, but in my book the Ostrys are the better IEMs overall. Most strikingly, bass has noticeably more natural transients on the KC06, whereas the RE600 sound overly damped in comparison (though it has to be said, comparing an open to a closed phone isn't quite fair in that regard).

Anyway, here's a test track that shows off the KC06's exquisite rendering of bass and drums:

Oh and last not least, having shelled out $400 for the RE600 makes it somewhat hard to admit, but the KC06 have better build quality too. Considering the price paid, the RE600's cable quality is outrageously bad.

Excellent track, James. Listened to it twice.

Seriously though, listen to this song with the KC06. I'm curious what you think:

james444/mochill/eke2k6, have you guys heard the Zero Audio Carbo Tenore? shotgunshane mentioned in another thread that he favors them over the KC06 due to better linearity and cable and they also happen to be in the same price range.

Thread Starter

i don't check this thread for only 24hrs and so many posts!

DannyBai is getting a pair! Where's DSnuts, huh?!

@eke2k6 , looking fwd for your review!

@sbose , over-ear wearing eliminates the noise (and also are much more comfortable). and earguides are included.

Well, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some weak spot. I can live with that one!

It's a small price to pay.

But dammit this phone is amazing.

James has asked me to send it around a bit so a few people can check it out. I was thinking 5 people at the most, and three spots are already filled. Send me a PM if you want to give it a go. First come, first served.
