REVIEW: Ostry KC06 - Page 20

I don't hear similarities with the 1+2 and k3k. In fact, I'd say it's like a polar opposite to those more aggressive sounding phones.

I do find the kc06 pretty impressively spacious sounding but I'd describe the kc06 mids as butter. They are just so super smooth, but it doesn't gloss over details. Barry White wishes he were so smooth.

I find this smoothness it's primary asset and it's primary fault as well. Vocals and acoustic music sound extremely enjoyable but distortion guitar lacks bite and crunch, so hard rock and metal sound a bit too polite. Still, it's a great phone for a more relaxing, easy going experience and I definitely recommend it.

What tips are everyone using to get that better bass? I didn't try enough, and just stuck with the stock tips mostly.

This thread is making me want to repurchase them again, moreso the KC06A. I mostly listen to hard rock, so the description above being too polite is accurate. It's more of my sensitivity to certain treble frequencies that made me sell these off.

I guess I was ahead of my time when I got them in November. It took about 4-5 months, but these "new" chinese companies producing IEMs are killing it in quality/value. I don't even look at domestic sets anymore.

Yeah, and it's because that they have to prove themselves while maintaining lower price to penetrate the already bustling market, and most importantly they're not hand-tied by their mid-high priced model (or they don't have any) like big company does (since they can't make better performing lower priced product than their mid-end one).

At certain price range (<$100), probably nothing from the big boys can touch these upstarts.

I should probably explain more lol.

I mean in terms of that spacious, effortless holographic sound of the 1plus2, but with the overall effortlessness of the K3003's presentation. I'd take vocals on the KC06 over both of those any day of the week/month/year/millenium.

There's been a favorite song of mine that only the 1plus2 has been able to do justice to for a long time. Once I heard the KC06, I knew it was the one:

This song should be on a disc sent with every demo pair of the 1Plus2. Personally, I was slightly unimpressed by the 1P2 until this track came around on shuffle. The cymbal presentation here is simply unheard of. I think it just may be the best reproduction of cymbals I've ever heard. The mids and bass are ok, but it's the treble that steals the show here. I've heard of gear synergy, but this song on the 1P2 is pure symbiosis. The ASG-2's sound signature just couldn't keep up here. This is the only song where I could say that I certainly preferred the 1P2 to the ASG-2.

Go ahead and fire that up with the KC06, listening to the vocals and the beautiful decay of the cymbals. The KC06 has just enough bite in the treble to make the song come off perfectly. What's even more killer is that I find the midrange on the KC06 to be superior to the 1p2 (from memory, of course). It's tonally perfect. Perfect.

I'm waiting for new toy syndrome to lapse, but I think this is easily the best bargain in IEM land.

Aw crap. I realize I'm sounding a lot like mochill.

Friggin gorgeous mids man. Spectacularly open sound signature that still retains awesome bass. The mids are as airy as I remember the 1p2 being, but more fleshed out.

Go listen to Kaleidoscope Heart by Sara Bareilles. I lost it when that track came around on shuffle.

It's still April 1st? :p

For $52, it's a great pick up. You'll like them.

If I had unlimited funds, I would have probably kept them.

Cool, thanks. My plan was to wait to see how the KC06A's compare, but my resistance can only go so far lol.

One thing I like about the KC06's, at least according to mochill, is that they are fairly flush, so hopefully I should be able to fall asleep listening to trance with them without having to stare at the ceiling all night :)
