REVIEW: Ostry KC06 - Page 112

Just got some e30(was a huge fan of the classic pl30) and just when I thought kc06 was the be all end iem for me, this one comes around and does particular things better, specifically soundstage and both being mid centric iem they are oohhh so good lol. Definitely know what signature I like now smily_headphones1.gif

The kc06 is still clearer overall, slightly more natural(better highs/mids) but the soundstage plus subbass is better on the e30. However the quantity of the bass is the only thing better right now(No burn in yet on the e30) and honestly ATM this is my bass heavy iem ahaha. The quality of bass is better on the kc06, and I do prefer it but for the $30 I paid for the e30 they are a solid alternative.

Edit:
And there is there is something so musical about the kc06 they just make you want to dance tongue.gif also kc06 have more detail and the bass despite me saying that the e30 has more of it, the kc06 deals with that much better. Its a lot tighter and much more separated, e30 (no burn-in) tends to bleed ever so slightly into the mids

Before I heard any TOTL product I had many thoughts of just "how" amazing it could it be, I had no concept of how much 'further' a TOTL product could excel from say something like GR07 or TF10. Was I going to be amazed? Was it going to totally blow my mind? Well, it did and it didn't. The improvements are definitely there especially in the detailing and clarity, but most importantly the price of diminishing returns is also highly noticeable. So the $1000 product might not sound to someones expectations and really could equate to only a $500 product instead (what you would be willing to pay or the products true value)

The problem with many high end IEM's is you're paying for the research and development, so while a product might cost $1500 much of that is going back to the company and not representing an IEM's total value, especially in a niche world where our hobby is tiny compared to the masses.

There's a chart here I show people when they ask this question and it's very much true to some degree.

But it is also relative to each companies tuning and performance, I have heard $1400 1Plus2 which blew me away.

I have also heard  $1700 Lear BD4.2 and didn't like it at all. So just like a $200 - $300 bracket, performance and value for money varies with each company

Most expensive does not mean better in audio. No way at all IMO.

Thanks for the diagram...it reminds me of high end stereo....which i remember climbing til i had spent the cost of a good sports car only to realize that I wasn't even

tapping my toes....I guess I am one of those that doesn't mind spending ...as long as ....I feel like I am getting my moneys worth...

Now to find out where the sweet spot is for value in this hobby!!!!

The Lear BD4.2 was rather disappointing, to a point we sent it back to Lear for checking. :D

Apparently the unit is on it's way back to Australia as I'm typing, so we'll give it another evaluation. It would not be fair to comment publicly until then.

Meanwhile, KC06 love is strong in Australia, all people I've recommended the Ostry too have been impressed.

Long live the Ostry.

Has anybody received his KC06A and share any initial impression or comparison against the first version? Or is there another thread for it which I have not seen yet?

Mine shipped on the 5th. Probably going to be a week before they arrive, or at least that is my guess.

Pretty sure there will be a picture of someone's box as soon as the first arrives.

Nice! I'm torn between the A and the non-A. I like the looks of the A version better but if it sounds worse then the older brother gets the bill. Substance over form it is. :L3000:

I think there's like 6 guys in here that has them on the way.

Also, I suppose it goes without saying that whoever gets a full review ready gets to start a new thread for the A-variants.

Finally my heir tips from lunashop jst arrived lol took a month i thought they were lost somewhere.

My oh my they sound alot better with these tips. KC06 is actually very tips dependent rather than burn in dependent like some of you guys said here.

With these tips its a betterment to an already awesome sounding iem. Bass tighter and it has alot more clarity I'm sure. The highs and mids more pronounced but able to maintain its sweetness and I can feel the high hats hitting hard and sweet with songs like Moving Mountain by Usher.

Listened to few flacs from Melodishop like fifteen by Taylor Swift, If you're not the one by Daniel Beddingfield and Jasey Rae (Acoustic) by All Time Low and the boy oh boy the THE VOCALS

PS: Thank You H20 for recommending these tips :regular_smile :
