Did you pre-order them from taobao?
I have the DN2k coming within a few weeks too.

I would rather buy the KC06a through a paypal source like Penon this time, considering my first pair of kc06 being defective and all.

SF likes one of the chinese finds that I also like? I'm shocked. Must be a fluke or opposite day :)

According to Canada Post, both my Ostry KC06 and Zero Audio Carbo Tenore should arrive either today or tomorrow -- most likely tomorrow since I'm not home to get the delivery.. they usually attempt twice before making it available for pickup at the post office.

Looking forward to trying them both out and giving my noobish impressions!

Initially listened with my new 5th gen ipod nano my friend hooked me up with fo' free, the dac on that nano is more airy/ softer in presentation hence it didn't gel very well with the same airy/ softer presentation of these Ostriches. So i didn't even touch them over the weekend. LoL

But today was like what the heck, i need to try some other sources to see how they gel. And MAN OH MAN, went back to my old 4th gen ipod nano which is pretty clean, tight, more clinical in its presentation as with a lot of cirrus logic dacs apple uses, which brought out more sub bass as well as bass texture. So i like man these are now sounding damn sweet with his source.

And since these Ostriches were so easy to drive i was thinking hmmm, these should be able to be driven REALLY well on my low arse power Nokia N9 which can barely drive the MH1/Cs loud enough. Boi was it a nice surprise to fine out that these Ostriches gel even more amazingly with my crappy N9 than even my tried and true nano/ venturecraft go-dac combo. hoho

Pretty giddy that even my N9s low power amp can drive these with one click of juice left, and that not only is the bass bigger than from the nano/ go-dac combo but it is more bombastic/ better textured/ with deeper sub bass and everything even mo' better. :L3000:

Need to update my initial impressions tbh. Much of it still stands but it has improved to be on par with the gr07 BEs is what i am hearing now.

HYPED!!! ;)

edit: oh and it is sure gonna' be interesting to try them on my 5th gen ipod classic, cuz that has the warmer woftson dac but the soundstage is also wider and a bit softer in presentation compared to my tight and clean 4th gen nano. The dac of the 5th gen nano is almost in between that of the 4th gen nano and the 5th gen ipod classic it seems but leaning more toward the characteristics of the 4th gen nanos.

Awesome! "Bombastic" is a good description, and relates to "and these things seem to be coming alive - the energy, cohesion and prat results in ostrich toe tapping awesomeness". The bass and the music almost seem to bloom out (in a very good way) at times and become completely immersive. If I the GR07BE's ever sounded that good to me, I'd still have them for sure (I really wanted them to sound this good). I always suspected that I didn't get the proper seal with them though, so that might be part of the explanation. But with the right source and the right tips, these kc06's are the real deal.

So, are you trying to tell us that you liked them?   Sorry, you were not very clear.  :D

Source/synergy is definitely a major component of elevating the kc06's to their freakish level.

Laptop -> HifimeDIY sabre dac -> Fiio E12 (bass boost off) -> kc06

versus

Laptop -> HifimeDIY sabre dac -> C&C BH (all switches off) -> kc06

HUGE difference. With the BH amp, the drums are flying around my head, the bass guitar's hanging out there in a certain spot in space, air and space between instruments and imaging is awesome, as is the soundstage. These good things only get better when the BH's switches are engaged (imo, ymmv). Whereas switching back to the E12, the soundstage seems more constricted and narrower. Air, space and imaging lessened. Still sounds good, but overall much less engaging (whereas with my open headphones, the E12 is the only way to go).

Edit: I think the C3 -> BH -> KC06 sounds even better than the HifimeDIY -> BH -> KC06, but will have to confirm.

Anyone else out there tried the kc06's with the BH amp?

Btw, the kc06's sound quite great straight out of the clip zip as well.

Um, yeah, maybe just a little. I wasn't going to comment until after burn in, but the stuff I've been hearing has changed that. Maybe I'll come back down to earth after ab'ing with my other iems, but at this point I just wanna keep listening to these lil' birds. :basshead:

Be careful, it has been mentioned before that these don't need burn in. Instead they burn out very slowly over time.

You may be wasting the best part of their life cycle on pink noise...

Lol - good one! I was looking for a winky face and couldn't see it. I finally saw the almost invisible "j/k". Fixed that for you!
