Personally I think the monoprice is overrated. I haven't listened to them for ages.. Lol

The vsonic cable was thicker than I needed it to be tbh.

The monoprice's I buried away for many moons as well - bass lacking, highs were overly elevated - but I did appreciate the airyness and soundstage of them. It wasn't until I tried the $5 (for 4 pair) vmoda bliss fittings 3.0 tips on them that I became a fan again. Bass - check. Mids - check. High in control - check. Airy and huge soundstage - check. Most refined sound in the world - not check. But still for $8, I couldn't help but to be impressed.

Rough initial impressions are that these are a great sounding lil' iem but had expected more tbh. Wasn't really mind blown by them and for me the Fostex TE-05 is superior to them in almost every way from what little i have heard of it.

These Ostriches has great sound stage more so in width than in height. Although not the most 3D in presentation, they are damn airy sounding, more so than the VSonic GR07 BEs that's for sure but still lacks a bit of air when compared to the likes of the TE-05 from recollection. Micro details and airiness of the TE-05s almost reminds me of the sound of the ATH AD900Xs which is a fully open set of cans but in an iem form. As many have already commented the passive isolation of these Ostriches are somewhat compromised due to their airy open heavily vented nature, and same could be said for the TE-05s though with music on these Ostrys seems to isolate slightly better than the Fostex. The treble of these are nicely extended with a tiny bit of sparkle but is never harsh, overly bright nor sibilant, better control then that of the GR07 BEs but the extension/ sparkle is greater on the VSonics. Mids on these Ostriches can sound a bit diffused with a not proper seal/ wrong type of tips but when you do find the correct tips the mids is nicely forward and lush, but again it is also slightly behind when compared to the VSonic GR07 BEs or even the VC02s.

So hows the bass on these Ostriches compare??? Welp they have a really clean and tight mid bass without any sort of mid bass hump or bloat, so for most pop music it is pretty adequate in terms of quality as well as quantity, BUT sadly sub bass is another story. The sub bass of the GR07 BEs has much more texture and weight when compared to the Ostrys, hence despite the GR07 BEs are not necessarily a "basshead" iem per se, it still gives you that visceral sense of the bass, which these Ostrys does not. Therefore, these Ostrys can hang sonically with the VSonic GR07 BEs, DUNU DN1000s as well as the Fostex TE-05, but it doesn't really bests any of them and for me is less refined overall.

So for now i would put them in the same performance and sound tier as the VSonic VC02 and the Sony MH1Cs but not really besting those those two completely in any aspect of the spectrum. I actually prefer the mids of the VC02 over the Ostrys as well as the texture of the sub bass. The MH1/C sounds much fuller and more musical then these Ostrys due to it's bigger bass presentation so in essence it's like comparing vanilla (Ostrys) to mocha (MH1/C). I can see/ understand why some folks that don't normally fall for the typical FOTM hyped gears (ie; bass centric gears) falling for these Ostrys due to their more analytical/ clear leaning preferences but as of now these Ostrys are good but not as great as i had expected to be tbh.

These Ostrys actually reminds me a lot of those famous monoprice iems for some reason but with a much more refined sound. The cable is pretty thick, soft and smooth but is a bit springy and the way their housing is shaped/ designed, i only feel comfortable wearing these over ears like so.....

... due to this lil' bump making it worn down feels strange.

I'd like to hear them put up against the new Monoprice IEM's. (9396) while you're buying up everything in sight spring for 6 bucks for a pair and shoot em out:)

I  agree with much of this.

I think I like the KC06 a little more than you, but not at the levels of some of the fans in this thread.   The KC06 is a good IEM and it is totally worth the asking price.

Now you've both stepped in it.

Meh sub bass is overrated tongue.gif (no really I'd rather do something about the high, it's way too polite for me)

And anyway that's why KC06A exist.

Well, everyone preferences / expectations are different, I still rate them highly, like many other members have earlier in the thread. I say from having heard quite a few IEM's now, and certainly some at $200 I would take KC06 over easily. There was never a guarantee we'd please everyone so some balance is actually positive, otherwise we'd just be a bunch of robots.

I wear the Ostry down and the fitting is fine. It's the most comfortable for me. I couldn't hear any sound differences too compared to wearing them up and behind the ears

Yes all other people who are liking the thing can't possibly genuinely like it and all just hyping it just because lol. rolleyes.gif

I personally find it simpler to just assume that SF is crazy.

But what if it turned out that you agree with him? tongue.gif

There's aboslute tons of impressions littered through the thread pages, posts like these below. (I really can't be bothered sifting through the spam)

Guys I think i am the most newbie of novice audiophile here so I may sound crazy but bear with me haha I have however auditioned the Shure se535, w4r, JH audio pro 5s and my dad having UE900. These were the highest end iem i have auditioned. My ears aren't well trained like most of you guys but all i can say for now that these blew me away even more than the ax35 did for me. For me i thought the w4r were abit laid back thus prefering the UE900. Is it crazy to say I'd prefer my KC06 over the westones? I loved the UE900 so much I thought how could any iem get better than this then listening to the Ax35 i saw the difference between a high end iem and a cheap one ahah Ax35 did well in the bass department but arent so great in the mids and highs. Its V shaped so probably not even fair to compare but those were my opinion. With the Ostry here, before trying, all i prayed for was to have better performance in the mids and highs than the ax35 considering the price. Only to realise that the KC06 were soooooooo good that i can confidently say it beats the crap out of the Ax35. To me they sound as good as the higher iem especially UE900. Its a crazy claim i know :( . How is it possible that a 10mm single driver can sound like 4 drivers from the UE900? Am i having the Mochill disease or something? hahah You guys may not believe me but like H20 said these things need to be heard! How Ostry were able to tune them this good at this price is mind blowing. Anyways this is just my initial impression. My source were from HTC one unamped and Rockboxed Classic unamped too.

THESE ARE INCREDIBLE FOR $60.

Blow away my RE0's in every department.

I feel these sound more cleaner in a way than the GR07, can't detect any graininess in the sound, just transparent as hell

Soundstage is huge, imaging is clear and precise.

This is top-tier sound!

And that's it? A couple of members felt underwhelmed (didn't actually say they were bad) and the entire thread goes to the sewage. lol Regardless, I'm not here to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't like, however for me (and quite a few others) KC06 is real.  I just wanted to point out if anyone can be bothered sifting through pages there are several members who love KC06, I doubt we will be changing our minds. But of course all impressions are welcome!

Yup, that's it H20. I think I'll just reject delivery and save myself the bother.

I was being sarcastic. redface.gif

I just don't understand how anyone who post unfavorable review is "honest" but those who favor it are merely "hype" (and implied not being honest) from the post peter123 quoted.

Removed my mod since I can't get it right and made the thing unbalanced frown.gif, on another note, biggest stock tips work really well for shallow insertion.

What I meant was:

SF has tried a lot of iem's and I respect his opinions. He saying that they don't best his $200 iem's is not exactly the same as he's saying they're bad, is it? I didn't find the review unfavourably at all. I find it honest because it talked about the strengths and weaknesses of the iem and actually described the differences between the KC06 and some other well regarded iem's.

I think it's only natural that reviews coming now from experienced users will be more diverced because the expectations are so high (for some reason) wink.gif
