Starting up my mobile journey

Hi everyone,

I am new in the head-fi community and would really like to start slow and easy that way I wont be a beggar by the end of my journey.

I currently have an ipod classic 5.5gen and an Audio Technica ATH-M50. Mostly my songs are in MP3 320kbps and ALACs.

I am looking for your advice on a cheap and easy upgrade path for me. I'm interested in the Fiio E12 with a L9 LOD and looking to purchase an IEM. The one im looking for now is the HIFIMAN RE-400.

What do you guys think? I know that eventually I will have to purchase a DAC/AMP combo like the Theorem 720 or the Centrance Hifi M8. But I think I have to start small and cheap.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Any advice please?

Can't go wrong with the RE-400, sound signature is very neutral, no monstrous bass emphasis like you'd find in many lesser IEMs. A pricey amp like the Theorem is absolutely not necessary for the M50, these phones are designed to sound good on their own. I'd recommend looking into the Hifiman HE-400 as your next purchase. They're of an open design as opposed to your M50's closed design, so take that into consideration. They're very easy to drive however (relative to other planars) and already sound great on a modestly priced Schiit M&M stack.

Great advice have my amazon shopping cart ready with the hifiman re400, L9 LOD and the Fiio e12. Next purchase would indeed be planar like the he400.

Thanks once again.
