How do I improve this setup? Please help

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you have suggestions on how I could improve my current setup.

Speakers: Bowers Wilkins DM 3000 (pair)
Pre Amplifier: Rotel RC-971
Power Amplifier: Carver M-400t
Computer Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65-Gaming Intel Z87
Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-M50

The speakers and power amplifier were passed down to me luckily. I am pretty new to hi-fi equipment and am slowly learning. Could any of you suggest on how I can improve this setup? I am also interested in buying the Audio Technica ATH-AG1 headset at some stage. I've been told to invest in the Asus Xonar ST/STX. My budget would be $400 for the time being. Hope some of you can help, thanks!

Your source seems to be the weak link (I assume you go from the onboard soundcard to the preamp).

You could look into buying an external DAC since your music library seems to be computer-based.

Sorry, I should have posted how I have everything set up. But yeah, spot on, my music library is computer-based. Any recommendations on a DAC I could buy?

I don't know much about DACs in that price range, you might want to check the "Dedicated Source" forums and read up on external DACs.
