looking for dead headphones for a new self build

Hi,

I am looking to build a pair of headphones and would like to find some quality but broken headphones to figure out some of the basics. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Things like what headband diameter (I want to try piano wire like on the AKG K240's, and probably spring steel strap like the Final Audio PANDORA HOPE VI), how thick to make the ear pads, how much adjustment to allow for ...

If anyone has any ideas that would be great, I am looking on ebay but they all seem to be working headphones and therefore quite expensive (especially if I start buying a few pairs to dismantle!).

Search koss ksc75 modding threads. Those are very affordable clip-on headphones and propably the best place to start. There is a lot of info around. Once you get the basics you can move on to fostex t50rp. I't is more expensive but there are a lot of different variations people have build based on that headphone. Some have even made a real business out of it.

Thanks Beocord, these two references are great. Heaps of info on them here as well.

Cheers!
