Thanks for the impressions MF. I'm really jazzed to hear these.

Quick question: Do you ever find the urge to crank these up? If these are anything like the Audeze headphones, I always feel they sound better (?) when turned up, even if it is just a smidge higher than normal listen levels.

I feel this way with the T50RP too. Seems like there is a "sweet spot" for volume.

Same boat here. always felt the LCD-2 were fun cans to listen to.  Too bad they feel like a cement block on the head.

Thanks for sharing!

Fantastically well written impression as always. They sound right up my alley and hopefully I'll get a chance to hear them sooner rather than later.

Hmmm... so for your dream pop/shoegaze tracks, would you prefer the Slant over the Enigma?

I like to listen to different genres at work so wondering what "range" of music I would expect to enjoy more than others...

Muppetface, you said the treble overall was a bit softer on the Enigma than the Slant, correct?

How would you describe the "air" level treble on the Enigma compared to the Slant? LFF told me it's a bit airier than the Slant, did you have similar feelings as well?

Here's a hand-built planar that's lighter and sounds (sounded at the meet) better than the XC. I've been looking for a relaxing closed back headphone for a while, but the closed back Audio Technicas are tonally uneven, the XC is too dark and a little weird in the bass, the SR4070 literally bakes your ears after an hour and the Fostex/Denons will give you a headache in less time than that by adding a wub wub to everything. Even the original Paradoxes aren't my idea of perfect (a little hot at the top).

JVC DX1000 worth a look as well

The DX1000 are one of the most colored closed phones ever. Only thing that it got going was the bass. I take a D7000 or W3000ANV over it any day. And also look better wearing that than the DX1000. You'll look like a princess Lia with the JVC.

muppet's early impressions are looking good for my wallet. do these sound kinda closed-in? smallish soundstage, not much air?

The enigma's look quite impressive... but after a few conversations with Luis and a couple of other very helpful headfiers.  Wolfetan and Purrin!   Thank you, very much!

I have decided on hardwired Slants.   Get those damn connectors out of the signal path....lol.  Just don't like the sound of connectors.

Looking forward to them as soon as Luis can ship em!

VERY EXCITED...LUIS IS AWESOME!

Happy Listening to all,

I had the Slants on loan for a while from Luis.. they were awesome.  Considering I feel I know your tastes pretty well, I'm quite confident you'll like them a lot.  It's been a while since we caught up, James (life and all, you know).. PM coming later this week, bud!

Just ordered a Black hardwired pair of Slants with the 7N Rogue copper cable.  Will of course share my impressions with everyone.

Been waiting quite a while to get a really good pair of headphones.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and ideas shared in this forum, it has helped immensely in arriving at this decision.

Happy Listening,

Anyone got some suggestions for some pretty 4 pin mini XLR connectors? I've been cruising around ebay and it seems they're all about the same. Also, what pins are positive and negative? Never worked with the 4 pins before. Gotta make sure I can actually listen to the Enigma once it shows up!
