Good XLR to USB converter

I will be using a Shure Beta 58a microphone to record vocals on my PC, and since it will be hooked up and sitting there, I might as well use it for other everyday operations such as skype and gaming. I was checking out the Shure X2U adapter, but 100 dollars seems steep for this adapter. Problem is I just don't know a whole lot about this kind of device, so if someone could explain in depth why they Shure is a good value, or  if there's a good value in a different adapter, I would  appreciate it. I'm not audio illiterate or computer illiterate by any means, this is just a completely new thing to me so some help from people who already use the equipment would be much appreciated.

I know not a lot cheaper but I like the Blue Icicle.

I think it runs around $70. At the $100 mark you can almost jump right into an interface so not a huge benefit there.
