ASUS XONAR U7 vs FIIO E17 as DACs

Which one of these has the better DAC.

I already have the E17, I am wondering if the DAC on U7 is an upgrade to E17 ? maybe a side grade ?

Which one is better for music and Games ?

my headphones are all low Impedance, so I don't need a very powerful AMP.

I also have the XONAR U3, thinking of buying the U7 for its new surround options...

Does it make sense to buy the U7 or should I stick to my E17 and U3 ?

I really doubt you would notice a difference between the U7's CS4398 DAC chip and the FiiO E17's WM8740 DAC chip.

I also doubt you would notice a difference between the U17's headphone surround sound and the U3's

I'm going to guess the E17 comes with a better headphone amplifier, then the U7's

So if you currently connection the U3 to the computer (desktop or laptop) and using optical to connect the U3 to the E17, then can't see a reason for buying the U7.

thank you for your response

I have the U3 and enjoy the DAC. Referring to the previous post, could I use the U3 connected to a laptop, then use optical of U3 to connect to Fiio E11 (amp only) and then connect headphones to E11? I like the U3 just wanted a way to get more power to my headphones.

You cant do that, You need to convert the digital signal outputted through the spdif to analog, then you can amplify it. You cannot amplify a digital signal.

Thanks, that was helpful.

The U3's headphone output jack should also serve as a line-output, to connect the E11 to.

Thanks PurpleAngel. I have the u3 and like what it does for my laptop. I thought I could put an e11 between the u3 headphone jack and my headphones and increase the power going to the headphones along with analog sound now going to the headphones. I did not have a headphone amp to test with. I had attempted to describe this in the forum with no luck until I saw your comment. I plan to buy the e11 so I can use as described and also use with my Sony mp3 player. Thanks again, most helpful.
