New Gaming Headset + possibly a sound card (300$ budget) - Looking for input

Hi guys! I'm new to the site and have been researching for a new gaming headset for the last few days.

I previously owned the Astro a40's from 2009 with the MixAmp. They were mostly for console gaming until I got into PC gaming. I really liked them, but they are starting to crap out, the sound cuts in and out.

I also own a pair of Bose QC15 and absolutely love the sound quality out of them.

I'm hoping to get a good sound quality as well as a good mic. As much as i enjoy the astro's, i would like an upgrade or at least something similar. I have considered a second set of astro's, but i keep hearing the build quality has gone down the last few years. Also i live in Canada, and they want 71$ to ship it...  I'm not paying a third of the headset in shipping.

My current set up has me connecting my Astro's to the mixamp to the motherboard via a usb.

My motherboard is the Maximus V formula, i do not have a dedicated sound card. Im also not sure of the sound quality if i go through the maximus V formula motherboard without a mixamp, As i always have used the Astro Mixamp from 2009.

Audio info about motherboard :

Realtek® ALC898 7.1-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

SupremeFX IV built-in 7.1-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

- ELNA premium audio capacitors

- 1500 uF Audio Power Capacitor

I'm trying to figure out how to get good sound and mic quality as well as comfort. I will be wearing this headset for over 12 hours on some days, talking with friends as well as listening to music in the background. I want to be able to hear quite a lot of the details that some games provide. I don't really need a headset for day to day music or anything like that, as i use my Bose QC15 and love them. This is strictly for gaming. I would like to get some 5.1 sound going.

Any advice? I'm just trying to keep it under 300$. Also i live in Canada.

If you're looking for virtual surround sound, your options might be:

1. Astro A50

2. Corsair Vengeance 2100

3. SS H wireless

4. SS siberia elite

5. Logitech G930

Or uh, you know. Just grab one of those cheap 30 dollar asus sound cards that includes dolby digital.

Slightly off topic, anyone know how much bass these headsets have? Personally I have a pair of vengeance 1500s and I keep looking but can't find any bass anywhere on them.

This is what I have to do to get any bass whatsoever from them.

I keep trying to compare them but I just don't know much about headphones/headsets or sound in general, they are the only headphones I have really heard other than the 30 dollar or so range. I'm really looking for an upgrade.
