I've heard both. IM-50 is better in terms of sound. But isolation and comfort clearly superior on Shures.

Excellent review!

Agree with your statement from your review:

"If you have a craving for extra bass and still want to keep your mids balanced to get a perfect rendering of vocals - this pair of headphones is for YOU!!! I don't want to use "basshead" label, but IM50 can really satisfy that craving!"

So I need to replace the Comply tips that came with my IM70. I know they are T-500, so I could just get the same ones, but I was also interested in the Tx-500 with the "wax guard". Would they also fit? Is the determining factor just the number after the letter(s) so T- and Tx- series are interchangeable?

Anything I need to know about the Tx series in general?

Can anyone post some size comparison photos of IM03 with any Westone models?  :)

IM03 vs IM50 vs W40

The IM03 is seriously huge..

Thanks so much twister6.

The Im30 looks shorter but fatter, w40 looks longer but narrower. The w40 housing length was one reason I got rid of them, to me they were longer than my old um3x and there for gave me a poorer fit. Not massively uncomfortable but noticeable.

Are you able to compare comfort levels between IM30 and W40? Do you find one fits noticeably better than the other?

And, able to do a brief sound comparison? Particularly in the bass department.

Cheers

Hands down, W40 is the MOST comfortable IEM I have in my collection.  Their ergonomics is very similar to Shure SE-series, sort of like a rounded bean design.  But fitment is purely subjective to anatomy of your ears :)  IM03 shell size is on a borderline of comfort for me, where IM04 and IM70 will cross that threshold.  On the other hand, my ear canal opening is large enough where I need to use only the largest eartips to get a perfect seal/fitment, and sometimes that adds to comfort level where others complains about nozzle/shell.  Regarding W40, they are very smooth and detailed, but bass is not as aggressive/punchy and mids pushed back a bit.  IM03 and IM50 have a very similar sound signature with a great enhanced bass quantity and quality of punchy mid-bass and nice warm sub-bass layer.  What sets IM03 and IM50 apart is a stronger boomier bass on IM50 due to dynamic nature of drivers, while IM03 has a wider soundstage, more detailed sound, and a better layering/separation due to crossover partitioning of 3 BA drivers.  But the gap is not that significant, in my opinion, and it's really hard to justify a price difference of $65 IM50 vs $350 IM03.  That's why I refer to IM50 as one of the Gian Killers :)  $500 W40 is fantastic, but it's geared more toward smooth laid back warn sound signature.

Do you prefer IM50 or Tenore?

I actually prefer both :)  Tenores have a lot of clarify and details in mids and wide airy sound.  IM50 slams you with a hard bass while still keeping mids nice and clear, but not on the same level as Tenore and the sound is not as wide.  Also, Tenore is more for indoor listening because I'm paranoid about the cable connection, while IM50 are build tough with a removable cable - more appropriate for outdoor use or when working out, especially with a wire behind the ear.  I consider both to be Giant Godzilla Killers :D

What if the IM03 is around $200 like it currently is through Amazon.co.jp? Does it then justify the price difference?

Curious to know this also? Shame Amazon don't have stock!

Thanks for the great impressions twister6. You don't by chance have the im70 also or auditioned them?

Sorry, don't have IM70.  Those are so big, probably won't even fit :)  IM03 for $200 is a steal!!!  Definitely worth it!

Regarding IM01/02/03/04 on Amazon, I got a word from AT US it should be there in a few weeks.  Obviously not sold by AT but their US distributors.  So can't wait to see what is the price going to be set.  As you know, those who purchased IM0x series from Japan, AT US will NOT honor the warranty. Warranty only will be honored from Amazon distributors in US (I'm talking about US warranty).  Also, as I mentioned before, AT US will not sell IM50/70 in the States either.
