Same drivers. Just different housing. IM50 is constructed purely of plastic. IM70 iirc contains aluminum inside which should be for better resonance.

There's a im-02, and im-70 on vrzone. @Singaporeans

Just Sayin... They are not mine.

I wonder if there is anyone who tried IM50/70 without fiters. I realised that w/o filters the sound is much more clearer and no sibilance to be afraid of.

Is it reversible? Tempted to try the mod too.

Sure, all you need is a needle to remove the filter. It is reversible.

Please share your opinions after the mod ;)

Earfonia, thanks for the excellent review. I was wondering about these for awhile, and had the 04 in my Amazon Japan basket for at least a month, hoping the price would drop.

Now I'm thinking that I would be better served with the 03, which is also cheaper.

thanks again.

Audiotechnica has now come out with a line of earphones called Sonic Fuel and it is absolutely amazing. The ear tips have a 360 rotation capacity for the perfect fit and they look pretty amazing! Can't wait to get a pair and try them out.

What's your preference of sound signature?  To me, IM04 is not for me, because I like detailed and transparent sound.  I also like thick and full bodied mids and bass, but good detail is a must.  IM04 for me, is lacking in detail. Too warm and smooth for my taste, I listen a lot to classical music.  I prefer IM03 than IM04.

I have ATH-CKX5. Very good value, sounds good, like a V shape version of IM70 :) But I'm still not really get used with the new construction with smivel ear tips, and the ear loop rubber, even though removable, but I cannot get proper fit without the ear loop. So, I think the fit is more of a concern rather than the sound. I could get good fit, but I still prefer the old style shape without any fancy swivel ear tips, and to wear them over the ears like the ATH-IM series.

hey guys,

i have the ath M50. while i like the sound, i find that the bass dont hit low enough. although akg702 has much lesser bass quantity, it hits much lower. Does the im70 or im50 hit lower than the ath-m50?

I have both M50 and IM50. To me, IM50 hits lower and harder.

I ordered the ath-im70 & I was just wondering if it's worth buying the ath-m50 as a closed reference.
Yeaa, it's apples to oranges but any input will be appreciated.

I have e m50. at that price point, the sound is hard to beat. however, the lack of sub bass keeps the music hanging without a good anchor. whenever i put them on, i missed the sub bass thuds. Since modifying the Akg702 for increase bass response...i have never gone back to the m50s. I cant wait to demo the im50 and 70 tomorrow...if they hit low, am getting one....that's of cos provided the mids and highs aren't sacrificed.

Yea, I used to have an m50, but sold it because it started sounding really cheap next to my other (open) hp's. Post back with your thoughts on the m50 vs im70 please

You know what at first when IM50s were new and not burned-in, the bass was more impactful than it is now. It seems that with burn-in period the bass decreased someway. It can be weird but did anyone experience the same thing?
