Looking for portable flac-ready solution with at least 160 GB space!

Thread Starter

hey guys,

so this is my first thread here - nice to meet you all!
i'm a self-proclaimed audiophile (or much more music enthusiast) and musician, although i doubt that i'd meet the standards of what most of you guys would consider an audiophile haha.

on my home setup i'm using an nad t 755 and klipsch rf 63 run through a cambridge dacmagic - for monitoring while producing/recording i work on two hs-80 m or the akg k-701 with a komplete audio 6.

so, let's get to the point:
i'm looking for a portable flac-ready player that has at least 160 gb of space.
right now i'm using a sennheiser hd-25 1 II for mobile purposes.

i've read that the cowon's actually can use external memory cards so i would be able to get to that kind of amount.

but generally i'm completely up to any recommendation - i've seen ipod's with LODs and amps here, which would also be a viable solution for me.

what do you guys recommend? my budget is around 400 €.

ps: note that i am located in austria, so importing/shipping has to be taken into account!

ps: i would also consider something like the colorfly with a different memory card would also be an option, given the possibility that this would work!

You can get alot of standard music players and rockbox them: www.rockbox.org for FLAC etc support.

Hello! welcome to Head-Fi

you say "i'm a self-proclaimed audiophile"

If correct, hard disc size should not be your priority!

Get something you like the sound of that takes an SD card.

Get the sound quality right and you'll be surprised what quirks

you can live with.

Or if size of memory really is your #1 priority - then get a 160gb Ipod.

Given your location, have you considered the  Altmann Tera player?

sorry for your wallet
