Tried a couple of Neutrik/Rean 3.5mm plugs and it was a huge pain and it left gaps between the plug and the original insulation.

Or what size multifilament should i use if i strip the insulation off the l-4e6s and where to buy it.

Neutrik Rean make a 3.5 that fits l-4e6s part # NYS231L

There are two Rean 3.5mm plugs one for small cable one for large

That was one of the ones I bought.  so I cut a section of isolation off big enough to attach the jack, strip wires. solder..small amout of heatstrink over soldering, and then....small gap between plug and end of insulation.  It seems like the plug's housing should be longer.

Maybe skip the heat shrink part. I attached the neutrik mentioned above to a star quad no problem. Just strip little bits of conductor, so the insulation is right next to the poles. I also couldn't crimp the insulation of the star quad for the strain relief, so I crimped the 4 wires with the main insulation right above the crimp.
