I'm in possession of both of these headphones but will return them for different reasons. So I would like to combine the positives of each while avoiding the negatives as much as possible. Tall order, I know.
+ has great tonal presence and balance. Instruments sound incredibly real from bass to treble notes. They convey the "emotion" of music.
+ foldable so easily portable
+ nice look
- On ear design; uncomfortable after about 2 hours
- a little bit limited soundstage wise
+ Great soundstage/sense of space in the music
+ Around ear so comfortable for extended use
- A bit thin. Except for in the treble range, instruments don't sound real to me.
- A little large for ideal portability
So basically I want the great tonality of the Onkyos with some of the sense of space of the SoundMagic's in a package that's more portable than the SMs and more comfortable for long listening then the Onkyos. And if I'm spending as much as I'll be spending, the should last a few years at least.
My budget is at most 300, but of course I'd love to spend less.
I listen to jazz, classical, blues, world, electronic.
