FiiO - Which product? (Desktop PC audio)

Hi

I'm in the market for a new DAC/amp and I've heard many good things about the FiiO products. However, I can't decide which one would be best for my situation.

I currently use a Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm headset and an Asus Xonar DG soundcard. The soundcard does not sit well in my case and has caused many problems in the past, so I'm looking to move away from it for another device. The only problem I fear in doing this is that I currently use the "Rock" equalizer preset on the Xonar Audio Center, as the default sounds terrible to me (it feels like I'm listening to the sounds underwater when the preset isn't on). I hope that dropping this preset and replacing the Xonar won't cause me to feel like I've downgraded my audio setup.

I mostly want this for listening to .mp3/.flac music and would like to spend no more than £60-80 if possible. I would assume I'd be looking at the e10 but I have no idea how the others compare and I'm not sure whether the portable ones can be used as desktop items.

So yeah, I'd really appreciate if somebody could give me some help or an opinion on this.

If there's anything I've done wrong or left out please let me know.

Thanks!

The Xonar DG is PCI, if you got the Xonar DGX, which is PCI-E and used it in a PCI-E slot, would that work better, inside the case?

Did you disable the motherboard's on-board audio? in the BIOS

Try the Unified Xonar Drivers.

Thanks for the reply, I'm already using the Unified drivers. The problem is a bit of both with the DG, it doesn't sit in the case well and I've had it fall out a few times whilst adjusting cables etc. since I can't screw it down. I also had some issues with it previously when I tried to system restore and the drivers needed reinstalling but got stuck during the process constantly. Kinda want to move away from the card entirely if possible. Also I don't have any vacant PCI-e slots :/

Do you suggest the DGX since there isn't much for me to gain from using a FiiO DAC/amp?

I recommend the DGX because it's cheaper ($30-40) and offers headphone surround sound.

Where as the FiiO E10 costs $75, but only inputs and outputs stereo 2-channel audio, which is fine for music, or gaming and movies in stereo (2-channel).

As it seems external would work better for you, might as well get the E10.
