HE-400 vs. HD-600

It's that time again! I've spent the past year or so upgrading my amp and dac selection but I think it's time to get some better cans to match. I am between the HE-400's and the classic HD-600's since they are both around the same price. I've heard great things about both headphones and need some help making up my mind. My current headphones are the Sennheiser HD-595 which I feel sound similar to the HD-600's though I've never gotten a chance to hear them to confirm. My current amp is a Little Dot mkII tube amp with a Schiit Modi DAC so providing enough power to either phone isn't a problem thanks to the selectable gain settings on the amp.

I prefer the classic more neutral HD 600.  The HD 600 is a full level or two above the very good HD 598 (which in turn is a tick or two above you current can).

Give both the Senn and HiFiMan a listen if you can.  You can read about both in this excellent piece:

A natural starting point would be to ask yourself what you find lacking with the 595, or what aspects about their sound you like.  The HD600 isn't a massive deviation from the 595 in terms of sound signature.  In general you just get refinement and more definition and clarity from its sound while still retaining roughly the same sound.

What I find lacking in the 595 is the bass seems to not punch as deep as I want and the treble extension seems to lack some sparkle on particular songs. After doing more research I think that the HE-400 may be the fix to these problems since it has more treble extension and more quality bass. I listen to alot of electronic music so good bass is important. Plus the HE-400 is $100 cheaper now in many stores since they are getting rid of inventory to make way for the HE-400i.
