What Happened to Cowon?

Used to hear about them ALL the time, I checked their web site and they are still churning out new gear, but any idea why we never see or hear of them any moar?

Granted the DX50 and Fiio X3/5 may have stole a lot of the thunder, but imo, Cowon players seem optimized for EQ, Ui and LOSSY. I never got to own one, the Hifiman Hm601 got me early on, but for some one who is interested in listening mainly to MP3s I'd still recommend teh Cowons, they seem like the perfect fushion of AudioPhileDap/Consumer Friendly [still]

I have a Cowon iAudio 10 which had a manual with the smallest type font I have ever seen. Adding album art was a mess and it took 10's of hours to figure out jeteffects.

That said...

Now that i got it going it sounds superior to all the apple and Sansa devices. The Cowon puts out very beautiful sound but you have to crawl through a miserable UI to get there with no help. It sucked.

But until I get the latest Fiio X5 which has an EQ slider @ 50hz...i stick with Cowon. Cowon is known for it's sound because of it's use of good DAC's and tweakablity but they make you go through hell to get there.

Really that's a shame that the UI is horrific... :/ that's no fun... oh well

15 minutes for great sound or

4 hours for excellent sound

I'll spend the 4 hours....but it shouldn't have to be that way:(  I couldn't get an ipod ever again because the Cowon sounds so beautiful. It's run by mental psycho warfare engaging terrorists trying to occupy the idle time of infidel workers in an attempt to overthrow the world...or something? I dunno why they need to make such a great thing so unreachable.

As another satisfied Cowon iaudio10 user, I second your thoughts about the Cowon sound and EQ tweaks and customizability. But I also would like to add that once you familiarize yourself with the UI and navigation, it isn't all that difficult, although it isn't smartphone-esque as well. The only gripe I have are that there aren't physical track buttons, like on the J3.

as someone who cut their "serious audio" teeth on Cownon (D2+, S9, J3) I always laugh when IBasso users xomplain about the UI, after my J3, the DX100 is a breeze...

Loved them as players though and they really got me into decent sounding kit after years of adequate...
