I believe the black and white one is their silver shadow mk2. Takumi is their latest flagship but yes they have the same weaving pattern:

You can find my impressions on the rox impression thread. I do like it the best on balanced cable with ak240 amongst my DAPs.

2 years ago I auditioned the JH16 annd UE18, I finally chose the UE18 as I found the JH16 too bassy with less clarity for my tastes.  I tried the Roxanne universals last week and liked the signature but the fit was an issue, not enough seal perhaps.  I preferred the 9 o'clock setting on the pots and settled on getting the custom versions.

I know the AKR03 come with 2 cables, one of them being balanced 2.5mm jack.  Is that cable available from AK or JH separately?

I will be demo'ng AKR03 after work today and it better disappoints me; I seriously don't feel like burning another ~14k as my wallet already got a huge hole in it biggrin.gif. Good thing I'm not a fan of BA IEM and I already got balanced IE800 so it will take a lot to impress me, but I will try to be non-biased.

Anyone tried UERM with AK240? Just had this sudden impulse to get a 3rd IEM to complent the UE18 and JH Roxanne so want a flat reference IEM.

I heard the UE18 and it has colored sound, and I hear the Roxanne is not exactly neutral even though you can turn down the bass.  Hurry, and the UERM for you AK240.  I heard the setup and it was the best portable setup I've ever heard.  Ask Currawong if you don't believe me. Also UERM is one of the top when it comes to transparency.  It's good to have a transparent set for A/B purposes of your gear.  :D

Yeah that was the idea, get another IEM to complete the range.  The UE18 has clarity but it's not neutral.  Roxanne is thick n in your face.  So next one should be neutral and transparent.

So I went to demo AKR03 earlier as planned:

And I'm pleased to say that it did disappoint me :p. I do give it benefit of doubt since it's not burned in (given that if burn-in does make it significantly better), but it didn't exactly just come out of the package yet the sound was so muddy that I didn't bother to listen to it for too long. It did sound very vivid though, which was something I didn't expect from an BA IEM. I had also tried its unbalanced cable unintentionally because I was given the IEM with the unbalanced cable at the beginning, so I was able to do a comparison of unbalanced vs balanced. Balanced was definitely better, but not as big a difference comparing to unbalanced IE800 vs balanced IE800, so I guess unbalanced vs balanced does vary from IEM to IEM.

Thanks to the demoing now I appreciate my balanced IE800 even more.

Hi kantana- Just noticed your post re UERM with 240...which is what I have. (Some very knowledgeable folks thought the flat reference of the UERM was ideal with the 240 and I concur). Fabulous detail, and I think plenty of bass- audiologist did a great custom fit. Wanted you to know that I am waiting by the door for delivery of a balanced silver cable from Ted Allen. Can't wait to see if it gets better!

I have the UERM running balanced with the AK240, and this combo a true reference experience. The UERM's are very revealing and are a great pairing with the AK240.

Wondered if you 240 owners might answer me a couple of questions:

Has anyone tried the Audeo PFE 232 with this DAP? If so, any good?

I have all my music ripped as the highest quality WAV files possible.... is this gonna produce excellent sound on the 240 or should I be using FLAC files?

Many thanks

I find that the PFE232's, using default neutral filters and the silicon tips, go very well with the AK240.  I find the AK240 to be a little too "polite" or smooth sounding.  For me, the PFE232's seem to give it a little missing sparkle and a nice low end.

I can't speak to your question regarding .wav files - I've only used .flac so far.
