How does this AK240 compare to the Tera player.  Form what I read the Terra player sounds amazing and does not need to be powered by a amp.

Hi Rudi,

I purchased the same Opus 3 album and it sounds wonderful; for $12.99 I would recommend to everyone to purchase this just to hear how good DSD 128 can sound. http://shop.dsdfile.com/page/2/

I also bought David Elias' Acoustic Trio - DSD Sessions which is on sale for half price at his website—$12.95. This is a pure DSD 64 recording straight from the mike to the Sonoma DSD recorder/editor without any PCM conversion for mastering, commonly done with most of the SACDs that have been previously released. His site plays samples of his music so you can get an idea if it suits your taste ... http://www.davidelias.com

Finally, for classical music fans, the 2L site has quite a bit of free hi rez music in various formats, including DSD 128. http://www.2l.no/hires/

I definitely recommend the 2L site for classical music.  I've purchased several of their offerings in multiple formats.  All quality recordings.

Source : AK 240 through Line out setting
Amp : Pico Power
Headphone : LCD XC with SAA Endorphin balance 4 Pin > use 4 pin balance adapter to mini plug
Cable : mini to mini Crystal Cable Dream Line DIY
Music file : WAV , AIFF , FLAC 24 bit and DSD
Gain : Medium
Ak 240 : NO EQ
Size : PIco Power match to AK 240 about the Same size
Duet slightly longer and wider
RS 71 B is smaller than AK 240

My impression :

High : is more or less like my Duet , not so bright my RS 71 B, Duet has slightly more detail and brighter
Mid : good and clear mid , Duet mid is sweeter and natural and more presence , Pico Power more forward
Bass : this the strong Point from Pico power , very deep and very good impact , and faster bass speed than
Duet and RS 71 B.
Separation : very good , Duet and. Rs 71 B are slightly better
Soundstage : not as wide as these two amps Duet and RS 71 B , but better depth
Background : black background
Hiss : No Hiss
Power : pico power has the bigger power compare to Duet and RS 71 B

Overall :
AK 240 with Pico Power pair with LCD XC is very good with high WOW factor , the sound quality overall more forward than the other two amps Duet and RS 71 B , very fast and forward .
I can hear max 2 hours , I feel fatigue to my ears
These set up is very good for Rock and hard rock and Blues like form Joe Bonamassa

IMO

Top RS 71 B below AK 240 below Pico Power Bottom Duet

Thanks Rudi, at least i know it works reasonably well and is an option with my current parts if i can swing it in May.

While I do agree with kkcc on compatibility of IEM with different A&K models (the Japanese term "相性" came to my mind), I think he's implying BA IEM is a better fit with AK240 unless I'm missing some dynamic IEM being an "extremely transparent IEM". I do believe a good BA IEM will bring out the best of AK240 in terms of details and clarity because that's what BA IEM excels at, but it's just missing the emotion and the sense of engagement which are extremely important to me. It's like feeding a symphony score into a machine vs having an orchestra playing it, which one will come out perfect per se? The machine of course. Which one would I prefer listening to? The orchestra, any day.

I will stop before I turn it into a BA vs dynamic discussion ^^;. I do hope AKR03 aka the modified Roxanne will bring me good surprises as a BA IEM.

I have the DITAs here, now you mention dynamic IEMs. I'll give them a good run, including with the Pico Power for comparison. It did wonders with the Parterres (SE, not balanced) but they are indeed pure BA.

Edit: I level-matched the DITAs from the AK240 and from that to the Pico Power, turned the volume up on a good percussion-filled track and was at a loss to notice any significant difference.

Hi Rudi,

I don't have any Opus 3 CDs, but I do have a few records. I'll have to do a comparison sometime and then report back ...

IMO the 1plus2 being a hybrid BA+dynamic IEM is one of the most transparent and clear earphones I have heard besides the SE5way.

Rudi - +1 on the John Lee Hooker - I'm listening to Sings the Blues, though. You ought to get ahold of Muddy Waters - Folk Singer, too - it is a stellar recording, and great music of course.
