The Astell and Kern AK240 Impressions Thread - Page 29

please gentleman tell us wich full size Headphone have the best synergy with the INTERNAL AK240's Amp ?

I read that the HD800 BALANCED is very good (to me it is quite a surprise considering how picky the HD800 is), but what about the other TOL headphones ?

AlphaDOG ? TH-900 ? SigPRO ? ...

it seems a lot of people are using their AK240 without casing, is it because it is used indoor all the time?

Because the default case is ugly IMO. I personally prefer a pure black case, but has no choice since there are no other options currently. I hope AK comes out with more color choices soon.

I am not agree that ak 240 can drive HD 800 very good in balance .

I have tried on Mook Show Roxanne with single ended sound more weight than. Balance Roxanne
With the balance : has better separation , wider soundstage , but the brass is thiner

I am not Shure about the balance cable from JH , could be the balance plug is not so good , until now I haven't found any good balance trrs plug

I am very surprised if In balance ak 240 can drive HD 800 balance

Ak 240 sound quality very good pair with : ( in single ended )

LCD XC
TH 900
Sig Pro DJ with Oyaide , SQ is very good now , the bass now not so boomy , the oyaide cable increase the clarity
And make the high more presence and clear
With stock cable bass SQ a bit boomy

Ak 240 sound quality not good pair with ( in single ended )

Ultrasone ed 8 ruthenium , bass is boomy

Alpha dog also not so good not enought power

IMO

My first ever post! Not sure I'm doing it right...here goes. Loving my AK 240....and absolutely perfect with my TH900. AIFF sounds pretty good (after re-ripping) and a allowing drag and drop from iTunes library. But....rudi where did you find the cradle? Must have but can't find where to purchase. Oh, pretty funny about the air bubbles. I thought I had a defect too, until I touched one and they started to move!

Is this thing really work $2,500.  I have a AK100 paired with a JH 3A, and I just purchased the Roxanne's now I am getting sucked into this thing. lol

I guess I could just use my AK100 paired with the international with the Roxanne's, but do they deserve better.

Might have to put my current set up on the classifieds

For fair comparison first we compare dap ak 100 vs ak 240

As stand alone Dap ak 240 is one level up compare ak 100

Ak 240
High : more pronounce and Better clarity
Mid : more sweet and natural and clear , not like ak 100 less natural and more forward
Bass : more detail and clean bass

I think the diff is even greater. I used a mod ak100 and returned after a week. IMHO the comparison between the 120 and 240 is huge.

And the UI on the 240 is 100% better than it's predecessors.
