I just picked up an AK240 the other day after retiring my iMod.

I was curious if most people use the equalizer or leave it off? If you use it, do you use "Pro" or do your own?

Thanks,

Ken

I think a lot of people on here use it with it off, i do mostly use it with it set on and set to my preference because i like a sharp top end. It is a much personnel taste and i suggest you experiment yourself. I and some others have found that there is not much difference (or at all) with the pro setting turned on and the EQ turned off all together.

Consensus seems to have been to leave it off.  There is a school that says turn it on, but with flat curve, and this does sound different.  But probably that is just the effect of the volume being scaled back (across the spectrum) to make room for + and - variations that are then not being chosen.  My experience - a few weeks only - is that OFF is the best setting.  Now it is 20 bands in the latest firmware, relatively subtle personal adjustments may be possible.

Quick question.  I noticed in an article earlier today that it was said the 240 comes with a 192/24 version of a Corrs album (In blue i think the article said).  I was just wondering if that was true and if it was is there anywhere else to get it?  `Just got an AK Jr and would like to test it out with one of my favourite bands

Hi,

I'm not at all tech-savvy, so perhaps someone could give me some much appreciated advice. I have the AK 240 which I think is amazing. I've never used the balanced output; as I have recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD800, I want to make the most of both the AK 240 and the HD 800's.

My question is this: is there a cable available that will connect the AK 240 to the headphones via the balanced output?
Any help would be terrific.

Thanks

Any of their cables can be configured in this way. I think the same goes for many other cable manufacturers like bestintheverse.com, plussoundaudio.com

Or you buy the normal balanced cable with a 4 pin XLR plug and this adapter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-5mm-Balanced-to-4-Pin-XLR-Balanced-Female-Headphone-TRRS-Audio-Adapter/121499500215?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3Dec4309953afe4ce0abd8dc2b3a9eb17d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D111508996608

Earlier pages have some discussion about balanced: http://www.head-fi.org/t/704698/the-astell-and-kern-ak240-impressions-thread/255

Cheers,

K

EDIT: Balanced gives you a higher output level, that you should be able to discern with the HD800:

  • Unbalance 2.1Vrms / Balance 2.3Vrms (Condition No Load)

Is there a way to downgrade from 1.28? I was heavily using the previous 10 band EQ with presets for each of my phones, now with the 20 band EQ all the settings are changed and I feel I can't get the same sound no matter how much I fiddle with this new EQ :(

How loose does the player sit in the case for most? Mine slides out pretty easily. Wondering if I should be another one, the black looks much better.

Both of mine (stock olive and black) fit tight. I got mine used from Amos so they haven't become loose over time, at least not very loose. I can hold the player upside down and it won't slide out.

Mine can slide out just plugging in the micro usb cable. I guess I will just see how it does over time.
