Depends what sound you like. Ref1 pairs very well with it balanced. Roxannes too. If you go into CIEMs, tons of possibilities.

Hi hke3g hing,
I have same feeling as you have after upgrade the firmware to v1.16.
I immediate want to go back to v1.15
Can you tell me how to do?

Very happy here with my Noble K10 + AK240, even sold The Hugo after I got the K10.
Th K10 pulls out all the details from the AK, other headphones couldn't, bringing it really close to the HuGo, which I considered in another league before. Strangely the HuGo didn't improved with the same amount as the AK did.

Its between the Roxanne and the K10. There's a test location in NYC for the Roxanne. I will be heading there in a few days to check one out.

It is all about system synergy.

I sold my Shure SE846s, although I loved them, because I felt like they needed balanced RSA amp to sound their best.  Meanwhile, my Westone W60 did not.  They sounded great out of the AK240 and got minimally better with the RSA amp in balanced output mode.  I did also compare using SE, and 2.5 TRRS balanced as well.

Now for the funny part, I picked up a Hugo last week and now my W60's made an impossible improvement over the AK240 alone.  I am guessing it is more the DAC improvement that the W60s are able to communicate vs. the amplification.  I simply find the music more immersive and although I try to analytically listen to music with this setup, I find it very hard not to get lost in what I am hearing.

The Hugo lives most of its life in my home 2 channel stereo until I replace that DAC but when I use it with my portable system

(ak240, optical, Hugo, W60), it is really good.

Yea! Love the clarity and the soundstage.

People say that it is only good with certain genres but I haven't noticed it yet. I will listen to it more for a while though.

I like everything about the design although the puny cable is a downer.

One thing that I noticed was that the FI-BA-SS will go loud like LOUD with any DAP but it just sounds not great at ALL with the DX90, X5, or the Cowon P1. Its great soundstage becomes lost with other DAPs than the 240(I know 240 has a great soundstage but that doesn't mean it will get large soundstage out of something that doesn't have a big one like the Amperier). The crazy clarity becomes less to I think with other DAPS as well.

I'm down for a universal IEM for the AK240 so far I'm thinking of this thing, Roxxane universal, or the SE846.

You ought to have Tralucent on (the top of your) list:  Ref.1 and /or 1plus2.
