Now that I'm more used to my AK240, I've got a few wish lists of my own (in terms of achievable firmware updates, not next revision of the AK240) :-

  • Album mode remembers where you last scrolled to instead of jumping back to "A"
  • In the song playing screen, allow a slide right or left for the previous or next track
  • allow an option to disable auto pause when the headphone jack is unplugged
  • any way to auto-detect balanced from not? h/w-wise I can think of circuit to do that but I wonder if it can be done through firmware

Have you reviewed the SQ yet?

I'm thinking about returning mines, the difference in sound quality between the AK240 and my WA7 seems a bit too little for me to be paying such a huge price difference for (also when a HD800 is plugged in, volume can become an issue as I have to turn the volume to about 60/75 and for softer songs at about 65/75 or even higher). Also just realized i'm too scared to be taking something worth 2.5k grand and just leaving it in my pocket while on the go, so to me it has no use for portability. The last deciding factor is that if I use it as a DAC+Amp for my PC, it will keep charging while it is plugged into a USB Cable and this will accelerate the death of the lithium ion battery. I'm trying to think of good reasons to keep it but the only one I can really think of is it looks so nice  and the build quality is amazing. Tough decisions ahead.

I'd love to have Wi-Fi automatically toggle on, to check for updates for the first minute or two after boot, then toggle off to conserve the battery.

Hi all,

I received my AK240 and started listening on Sunday.  It's now Wednesday and I just spent the last hour comparing the sound quality to my RAWK100.

I'm surprised. While the 240 sounds good the midrange is more recessed and jazz guitar and piano solos seem less engaging. The bass is bigger and the highs slightly sharper.  I think the 240 has a blacker background but the midrange on the RWAK100 sound more organic.

I'm using Shure SE846's with a custom cable and these Shures are new so I'm going to switch to my 535's and also try my Focal Studios.

Overall I'm not blown away like I expected to be. I'd say the differences are somewhat subtle.

What's not subtle is the UI/ergonomics of the 240 - so much nicer to use in every respect.

The battery is terrible though.  For the comparison I've only been using 16/44 and battery hasn't budged on the 100 while it's down to 90% on the 240.

So I guess the question I have is :  how much more can I expect the 240 to change during break in?   I've probably got 30 hours on it so far.

Ok gonna' ask a very silly question, but since you are so kind in responses.....how do you "stop" playing a song? I know you there is pause (blinking time) and play of course, but what if you just want "stop"- that also might help batter life?

Wait till you have at least 200 hours on it before your final assessment. 200 hours gets you about 85% there and the remaining 15% comes during the next 200 hours. IMO, of course.
