Portable amp for Creative Aurvana Live! 2.

Hello, I recently buyed the new model of C.A.L.

I'm using them with a Sandisk Sansa Clip +, and I'm not very satisfied, The volume is good, but it feels like they don't show up all their potential. The better experience I had was by using them with my pc (integrated soundcard), volume was better, and I didn't had that feel of "impotence".

So I decided to buy a portable amp (no need usb dac). I looked for Fiio E5 and E6, they seems good.

Will a portable amp help, in my case? What amps do you suggest me for $50?

Thanks for the replies and sorry for my poor English skills.

Welcome to head-fi Greg,

I see you have a sansa clip+

If you are in the look for sound quality try a rockbox

Of course, you need to read documentation on how to make it.

At this point, using a headphone amp will not bring much benefits....as it will amplify the same sound that it's coming from your portable player.

Install Rockbox on my Sansa was the first thing I did, cannot livello without it.
Btw, I've heard people saying that c.a.l. 2 goes better with a portable amp, and also in general people where much satisfied by amplifying a pair of 32ohm headphones. So, I'm a bit confused right now.

I did not recommended an amplifier because i thought that your sansa was not rockbox'd.

But you did it, that's another story. Source it's improved and adding a portable amp in the chain is worth it.

Oh, wonderfull. So, back to my second question, what amp can I choose?

Fiio E6 has more features (and better SQ) than the E5 which it's pretty basic, and it's now discontinued as far as i know.

I stay with the E6

The only budget friendly i know to the moment are Fiio's. There are portables from other brands but more expensive.
