congrats intervoice!!

i`ve had the he500, depths are really stunning ... if you`ll find them a bit clampy, just bend them a bit like shown in the manual.

what i would be interested in, how works the hd800 with ef-5??? please let us know your experiences ;)

and ahm, if you don´t need the headphone stand ;)))))

Thanks for the advice.  For the EF5 I will change the OP275 opamp with LME49860NA.  This should make the SQ more dynamic and clear and less warm.  I will check what brand is the 12AU7 tube as I know the latest one is made in China according to the maker.  I may change it to RCA (Grey Plate) 12AU7 tube where the SQ will suit me more.  If there is enough space I will connect a 0.22uF MKP capacitor across the +/- power pins of the opamp. This will make the SQ much more smooth.

I will post a full report on my impression after 100 hrs burning in.  I suspect the EF5 should work fine with HE-500 and my LCD-X as both have low impedance but I doubt it can drive the HD-800 as the impedance is high (300 ohm)  The power output of EF5 is 2W at 30 ohm and with 300 ohm headphone connected to it I don't think it has sufficient power to drive the HD-800 to its best performance.

aah, detailed plan .. we`ll be looking forward to your review :)

had rca clear top and amperex 12au7 - nice highs, but preferred Sylvania 6189W NOS/USA, very clear and deep bass - tight but weighty enough while available for a reasonable price ..

have fun with your new gear!

Today my prize has arrived. I have set them up for a quick test and I can confirm that they are all functioning well.

I am now running-in them for at least 100 hrs before I carry out a detailed review.

As for the HF-5 I did not use the stock 12AU7 from Full Music (made in China) instead I changed it to RCA Grey Plate 12AU7.  I also added two damping rings onto the 12AU7 (the red rings shown in the photo).  Later I will change the stock opamp to LM-49860NA.

As to the Gain of the HF-5 I pushed the L switch to its "ON" position which increases the output gain by +10dB and this is more than enough to push the HE-500.  The volume is normally at 11 o'clock position for music listening.

Lastly I have to thank Frank for offering the prize which I am a lucky one who had won it .

I have made some modifications to the EF-5 and it now sounds much better.  If you are interested to do the same please see what I have done to the EF-5 in the following link:

Now I am starting burning in the EF-5 and the HE-500 and will provide my impression after 100 hrs burning.

I have tried HD-800 with EF-5 and personally I don't think they match very well. EF-5 works excellent with my LCD-X but not as good with HD-800.  The soundstaging and LF has lost by a fair amount while there is also boost in the HF thus making the music not natural to my ears.  I believe it is due to the high impedance and the low sensitivity of HD-800 which is difficult to drive.  It needs a powerful headphone amp to push.  Having said HD-800 works wonderfully with my Fidelity Audio HPA-200SE which can drive high impedance CANs and gives out sufficient power.  As to my other headphone amplifier, Yulong A18, it drives both CANs like a charm.
