Need help rejecting AM radio noise from my HD598s

Hello, I hope you guys can help me. I recently upgraded my amp and DAC to a Schiit Magni and Modi stack, which sounds fantastic. But now I can hear squealing, popping, and some guys voice talking about Jesus. This happens even when nothing is plugged into the amp but the headphones and power supply. That sounds to me like I'm getting AM interference through the headphone cable. Does anyone know where I can get an EMF/EMI shielded headphone cable for the Sennheiser HD598s? Would sticking a Ferrite choke on the stock cable help? Or can you advise if that's not the issue?

These kinds of issues can be hard to eliminate. You could try the RFI Choke, and it may or may not help. Are any of your power cables running alongside your audio cables? Is everything grounded well? How about wrapping the cable in foil? redface.gif

Try experimenting with aluminum foil, wrap it around the amp and maybe cables. Maybe you can isolate the issue to one of your components.

The Magni uses an external wall wart without a ground plug, and from how many issues I have had from noise, that sounds like a big design flaw. I have narrowed it down to the headphone cable acting as the antenna, as every other cable is rather high end (Staight Wire Concerto RCAs and Straight Wire USB) and is well shielded.

And the only cables I have anywhere near a power cable is the USB cable, and I've moved it around. That did nothing, but when I moved the headphone cable, the squealing, popping, sermons, etc, all changed in pitch and varied distortion levels.

I don't hear anything as of  9 AM Eastern Standard, which points towards AM interference. (AM propagates further during the night) I will try wrapping the cable in fail, and possibly ground the foil?

I''ll get back to you, thanks for your respsonses.

If your neighbor's back yard looks like this, then I think we might have found the problem...

I found these:

So, am I correct that the HD598 is just a 2.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo? If that is the case, then I think the cable could be easily replaced. You could even get a 2.5mm->3.5mm adapter, then use any 3.5mm-3.5mm cable.

You know, I think they do have satellite TV...maybe they're sleeper agents...

The 2.5mm end is very thin and has a locking groove in it, makes it very hard to use a cable that isn't custom made for it.

I was thinking of cannibalizing the cheapest replacement cable I could find (for the special 2.5 end) and make my using this technique :http://diyaudioprojects.com/Power/diySilver/ just modified for headphones use. I would most likely incorporate this http://www.cableorganizer.com/metal-braided-sleeving/  into the shielding.

With the metal shielding and the braiding, I should be good to go. I might not use silver though, depends on how cheap I can find it.

Or maybe I will just add the metal sheathing to the stock cable. I'm not sure, I'll see after I test the foil tonight.
