New member here...looking for expert advice from you guys

First off, GREAT forum!  Found it by mistake while searching for info on the NAD earbuds that I saw in the Headphone Guide that I recently picked up at the book store.   Great mag and info except there were no specs, etc. listed, which I found sort of odd.

My question...I have a pair of Logitech Ultimate Ears that I purchased couple years ago at BestBuy for around $60.  Wasn't really 'tuned in' to earbuds at the time but wanted something fairly decent and I knew Logitech put of some kicka** comp. speakers (of which I have 2 different sets).  Can't beat them for the price.

Anyway...I didn't know that I wanted something better until I found this magazine.  What an eye opener!   Didn't realize this 'world' even existed until I started turning the pages.  I was looking at the NAD because I bought their top of the line receiver back in the 70's and it was the best sounding receiver I've ever owned.

Now that I've been through the mag, I'm interested in everyone's opinion about the best buds for $100.  I've seen a lot in the mag that looks really great, but sometimes that can be deceiving.

Need your help...don't want to make a bad decision.

Thanks

Traditional greeting...

Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet...

Well, first off, a little hazing of the noob - "buds" are what Apple gives away with an ipod. Head-fiers use In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) wink.gif

You need to give a bit more information. Do you like heavy bass or sparkling treble? Smooth midrange like a cool sax player or the ripping power rifts of a metal guitarist?

There is no such thing as "best" with audio. There is no test you can run that will product a table of results that can be ranked from 1 to 100. There is only your preferred sound signature, which might be different from mine. Within each price tier there is an array of choices that appeal to different people's preferences.

Here's a couple of things to start with:
