Headphone amplifier Enclose it yourself only?

Thread Starter

Hi
I am a newbie to this headphone stuff, but when I got the best music sound I ever heard from a equalized headset following the equalized headphone thread on these forms I was hooked. Consequently I would like to get budget audiophile grade equipment.

I am wondering if you are not up to do-it-yourself, but if you are up to enclose it yourself are there any bargains sites out there I might look at to find good values in headphone amplifiers. I think I may have decided already on a DAC, but recommendations on sites I may want to look at for their enclose your own headphone amplifiers is something I would really appreciate you recommending to me if you have some good ones?

Elekit has two versions of their TU-882R, one of which has the boards soldered already, and one which doesn't.  I'm not sure which ones are available in the overseas version of the kit, but vkung sells them here: http://www.vkmusic.ca/. They come with enclosures, however.

There are quite a few amps out there -- I'd consider learning to solder. Through-hole components are quite easy to solder once you get the hang of it.

It has been a while since I looked, but there were O2 amps available with the PCB built but uncased for a while.

Casework is the hardest part of building an amp. Buy a Cmoy PCB off of ebay, and learn to solder.

Then build something nicer.
