How do these fair to the HA-FXZ100/200 series? The price jump is a bit steep but if its better than the FXZ200, I am sold

Yes, you are. The plan is to send all three on tour by end of the month.

Quick first impressions of the "wooden threesome" (aka FX650/750/850):

  • FX650/750 have the same fixed cable, with shorter strain reliefs than the FX850 and are easier to wear over-ear than the latter.
  • All three are bass cannons.
  • All three have roughly similar sound signatures.
  • FX750 are very close to FX850 in resolution and refinement.
  • FX650 seem like a step down from FX750/850 (but still sound great).
  • FX650 are less sensitive and need more driving power than FX750/850.
  • j444 mod works great on all of them (lowering bass quantity / improving bass clarity).

How would you rank the bass quantity among the 3?

Too close to rank after a short listen. All three have way too much. Bass exaggeration is the biggest drawback with these phones imo.

So I guess the FX750 are a great bargain by the looks of things :O

Narrowed my list down to just a few, but think the 750s will be my choice. Waiting for my info to get verified by Tenso now.

Hopefully I'll have time for more in-depth comparisons on the weekend, but so far I would agree with you.

Thanks!

Very interesting. I had hoped there would be more to distinguish them all besides general quality of sound and removable cables, ie FR differences. But interestingly, all of a sudden, I vaguely remember doing a google translate of something about the trio and based on the descriptions getting the impression that the main distinguishing difference between the 750 and 850 was the replaceable cable.

Is the 750 smaller than the 850? I think I'm good with the removable cable on the 850. I used to think the FX500 I had was bulletproof til the cable up and shorted out on me one day.

Yep, a little bit. I'll post comparison pics in a day or two.

Here is a pic (source: google) showing the 3 models side by side (FX850/FX750/FX650)

Always thought that the FX700 is large (FX750 seems similar to the FX700 in size) but the FX850 seems to be huge!

These JVC woodies are however some of the most beautiful IEMs and build quality seems top notch
