When I output a digital audio signal (either TOSLINK/optical or coaxial) from either a dedicated sound card or on-board "mobo" sound, is there any process in outputting that signal that would cause any audio quality loss before the digital signal reaches a Digital-to-analog Converter or headphone amplifier?
1) Resampling. Just disable it on the cerds and in players.
2) Are you using windows? If yes please search info about KS/WASAPI/ASIO.
3) Sound cards effects. Disable any "effects".
I haven't bought anything yet, it was a hypothetical question, but I am thinking about buying a FiiO D3 (D03K) DAC on Amazon; it has really good reviews.
And I still haven't found the right headphone amp. It's hard to find exactly what I'm looking for. And if I'm going to spend good money, I refuse to settle for something I don't want.
Saying that you don't run any filters or anything like that, digital is all the same, if that's what you mean by pure.
