Looking for some clarity in making a decision on a set of Closed Back phones.
Budget: £150 max.
Closed or open back: Closed
Portable or non portable: Doesn't matter, will be used at a desk
Sound preference: I'd like a nice wide soundstage, clarity and a well defined and 'fun' low end.
Durability: Doesn't matter, will be used at a desk
Isolation: Used primarily in a loud office environment, so must have very good isolation
Size: Full size
Ear preference: Over ear
What will you be using as the source? iPhone 5, a DDJ SX and Roland UA-25
Do you have an amplifier for the headphones? Yes. Fiio E10.
I have just gotten rid of my MDR-V700's, as I couldn't stand how muddy they were anymore. Therefore these would need to fill 3 main purposes, office listening, DJing and light production use.
I'm currently using a pair of IE8's in the office, listening to mainly EDM and Drum & Bass. I'd really like whatever I buy to sound more crisp and have a wider soundstage than these, but I'm sceptical this can be achieved for under £150. I'd happily continue using my IE8's in the office, but I have to frequently take them out, which is difficult with Comply tips as you have to re-shape them into your ears every time.
I've been looking at a few contenders and the following two are top of my list, with the Beyer's slightly topping the pile due to price and reviews...
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80
Any insight would be fantastic, especially in comparison to the IE8's- although I'm aware they're two completely different types of phones.
