Problem is: you cant purchase directly from Xiaomi's official online store if you don't live in China as they only ship domestically. Must go through a 3rd party (eg a forwarding agent)

Ok.

I thought the xiaomiworld website was a direct portal for English speaking customers.

The IF edition looks interesting. The only thing I can see that is different through is 'Dual-damping balance system make the sound more pure' and better control of iDevices.

The 2.1 version (the one I have) volume controls do not work on iPhone 5.

Looks like the IF version has solved this issue.

Hmmm, maybe another purchase coming up - still very cheap.

I was told IF version has the SAME control as 2.1.  Xiaomi is a well known company selling Android smartphones, so they cater to their own phones, Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, etc.  Maybe they will make a version with volume controls for iDevices in a future, but for now volume is for Android only.  And it's about time ;)  Majority of headphones have volume control for iPhones.

I was able to get a little bit of functionality with the iPhone and the in-line control and by that I mean holding the button on the opposite side of the volume buttons to activate siri. It might not be something totally useful, but hey compatibility.

Does the buttons Of the inline mic work with the iPhone? In My Pistons 2.0 only the central button works (play/pause/next)

Exactly. I use an iPod for my music, and the volume controls are simply moot. I also have an Android phone, but the volume controls are instead used as Forward/Previous. It seems the Pistons work best with offerings from the big brands (Samsung, Sony, HTC, etc) as well as their very own phones.

Also working on wp phone. I have an Nokia 820 and volume+/- are working, middle button 1 click for pause music or answer/end phone calls, 2 clicks for next track, 3 clicks for previous, long press on home screen voice recognition.

They are too heavy for that.

To me, they aren't that heavy. The cable is too short, though, so yeah, I still have a gripe with these.
