If you like big bass, get the Piston. The Piston is pretty clear, but the pro Havi is ultra clear. The Havi is just light on bass a bit, kind of like a single Balanced Armature driver.

And speaking of big bass, I was just able to squeeze a nice basshead amount from my Pistons :)  I was going through different eartips trying to find the best balance of lows and mids.  Well, came across the old box of Awei ES-Q3 (under $5 from dx.com).  My daughter broke those awhile back, but I kept the box with all the eartips.  It's largest eartip took Pistons bass to the next level!  Some roll off in upper mids, but bass is full power in your face!

FYI, this is an old picture of ES-Q3 from awhile back.  Don't recall these having a good sound quality, but saved pair of eartips sure came handy.

Also, a few days back I was doing comparison of Pistons 2.1 against original Sennheiser CX300 using common set of eartips, and Pistons destroyed those in soundstage and mids/treble details.

Are Pistons 2.1 the new IF limited edition? And are IF edition time limited? I want to buy from original website, but I'm not sure if there is any condition to get them, especially number 3 and 13 in the sale page:

The newest regular Pistons are basically "2.1". They sound a little different over the original, and the case is a bit different.

No idea  if the IF edition will sound different, but it comes with an IF box, shirt clip, and carry bag for the same price.

Zhengnan seller from amazon told me these are going to be the same just in a different packaging.  Also, I don't believe he will be carrying them since I think its a limited release only.  I also mentioned to him to update pictures on his product listing so now he has a shot with S/M/L and a shirt clip.

Btw, was that my imagination or did I read somewhere on hed-fi that Pistons are made by Dunu guys?  Obviously a popular smartphone manufacturer such as Xiaomi wouldn't spend resources investing into R&D to design their own headphones, so they had to subcontract someone to make Pistons for them.  I can only hope these were made by Dunu and with success of Pistons there will be more updated versions in the future (maybe even hybrids?).

Also, for those who are following this thread and others who tagged it under "hype" posting, I don't want people to get a wrong impression that $20+ Pistons will make everyone drop their Shures, Westones, UEs, Audio-Technica's, Senns, etc.  The hype is not about these single dynamic drivers sounding as good as $400-$500 IEMs, but that they sound as good if not better than some $50-$100 in-ear headphones, have soundstage wider than some $100-$150 models, and have a very bold design.  Plus, they have integrated control with latest Android phones where beside playback and call control you also get volume control (very rare since everybody else implements iPhone volume compatibility).  The only other company I'm aware of who finally released Galaxy compatible headset with volume control (beside analog slider) is Sennheiser MM30G ($60).

Now that's a whole lot more believable than other claims

They Are at least in the $200 range sound quality 😎

twister, how would you compare your pistons to your UE600?  i just got my pistons and i like them, but don't love them.  i was thinking of picking up some UE500vi ($25) or UE600 ($40) if they offer better sound.

The only thing missing is the last bit resolution and control 😁

The Sony MH1C and LG Quadbeat 2 also have Galaxy-compatible volume controls.

Oh yeah, forgot about quadbeat 2 (just recently read about it).  Didn't know about MH1C, thanks for the pointer!

The single BA driver in UE600 is tuned to be more mid-centric, definitely better emphasis and control in upper mids, but it lacks in bass.  Pistons pack a nice bass, especially with a right set of eartips, and have overall a warmer and more balanced sound.  In terms of comfort, build, looks it's up to a personal taste, but in my opinion UE600 more comfortable to wear since they are lighter and have vertical design, but Pistons build A LOT better and more durable.  With in-line remote, if you have an Android phone it's no-brainer to go with Pistons where you also get a better mic pick-up while with UE600 I have to constantly bring it closer to my mouth when speaking.  Another difference, UE600 comes with a nice storage box, while Pistons 2.1 doesn't.

If sound quality is your main criteria, you just have to decide if you want a warmer balanced sound with nice bass (Pistons) or a brighter mid-centric and a little more detailed sound (UE600).  I can't comment about UE500, but it sounds like an old version of UE600?

Hey guys, can anyone else confirm (apart from bhazard) that the ibuygou 2.0 pistons sound different/better to the newer updated version?
