Hey guys, just got my pistons a few days ago. Just wondering if anyone can help me verify that they are indeed authentic. Thanks.

Got them from amazon (Fulfilled by amazon w/ prime) for $25. Seemed reasonable considering that i didnt have to wait two weeks + to get them, rather a meer 2 days. I think they are legit, however its normal for someone to have their doubt especially when you dont buy directly from the source. I've looked online comparing to authentic pairs, however i think a more seasoned "piston-eer" could tell the slight differences better than I.

I have to say they are a beautiful pair of headphones, up there with my phillips fidelio x1's in their appearence. So if at the least, here are some hi-res piston-porn pictures.

Here are some pictures,

I received mine yesterday, and the're the same ones that you got , Martinrm.

They're legit.  Well, if they aren't legit, these are the best-sounding fakes I have ever heard.  A bit of EQing the bass, lower mids, and upper mids down yields surprising ly decent neutrality while maintaining outstanding detail - rivaling that of my Vsonic VC02.

Here is the internal structure of XiaoMi Pistons:

V2 has so called Dual Damping System. The "filter" that is removed by "filter mod" is actually a part of front damping. So I decided not to mod it.

That's just a 3D cross-section. This one will do the part better:

I can't believe how much thought and engineering went into the Pistons, considering how little they cost.

Does anybody have any links to fakes? I want to see how the fakes look and sound.

I can't believe anybody would bother making fakes of a cheap earphone.

Well, I could say they didn't change much design-wise, especially when you considerthe Pistons 1.0 had a very similar housing. The change in the manufacturing process was the biggest improvement, though, and is the main reason why fakes look so blatantly fake.

not really. unlike what most people think it's getting much more expensive to do business in China now. and producing good fakes of such a cheap product means their profit margins must be minuscule. If they go with making crappy fakes for more profit then people wouldn't be so paranoid with identifying fake and real. It'll be instantly noticeable.

There's a medium size single flange tip (under the letter "M") in your piston box that's more solid and thicker than the ones that come on the pistons itself. I notice the nozzle is a little more extended, too! I'm pretty sure the xiaomi company knew about this months ago and been placing these inside the piston box. The results......better seal, controlled bass and excellent treble! One of the reviewers on amazon under the user name "AL" speaks highly about this. I'm actually using the medium size single flange tip straight out the box and have no complaints what's so ever. I notice no one bother to care on this particular tip inside the piston box.

Everyone on this thread should really try the medium tips that come inside the piston's box. With a thicker silicone, longer nozzle it actually solves my solution of my perfect sounding pistons! ....No need to modify!
Turned these from great to divine for me! My M-100s will be out of my bag from now on.

Had this Xiaomi Piston IF edition for one month now. Got it for $29 after exchange rate in my country.

Impressions: This is it!

though for me, it's more of the android remote capability of this IEM. Don't know why, but it's really hard to find one in the market other than the one from the phone maker itself.

One thing that i don't like from the original IEM is obviously the sound, something that i don't want to trade just for the remote capability, but Piston sure delivers. Here's what i think of my Piston

Before going further, I never had quality IEM. I got HD558, a $50 nixon on ear, and your usual IEM that comes with devices. Playback mostly from my itouch 4g and Xperia ZL

1. Sound

- Sound stage : my favorite part of this IEM, it has a wide soundstage, okay depth. good separation.

- Low: Bassy, get a very good seal and i believe this can barely pass for the bass heads. Is it tight? well it's not as good as my HD558, that's all i can say lol

- Mid: Smooth, not so forward

- High: smooth but lacks energy

- Overall this IEM sound is more toward the warm side. It has a very good clarity but introduce a little sibilance. Very easy to listen in long sessions.

2. Build Quality and packages

3 sets of earbuds, a simple box, and chocolate flavor IEM holder

The microphonic is quite good

build quality superb

Mic quality is good

The shirt clip is not so useful

The pouch is really good

3. Comfort

For me the stock tips is good enough, note that different tips will introduce different sound characteristics.

The stock tips is different from the one found on the box. From the size i guess it's medium, but the one in the box has thinner shape and stiffer, it can give deeper insertion for some people.

For me the medium tips in the box makes the sound thinner, the bass is gone and gives more clarity on the mid and high.

The large tips gives more bass and a better sound isolation.

The stock tips is the middle of the road

Now there is this foam mod that has been talked about here. I tried it for around 2 weeks and i can say that it changes the sound in some area

- Where the original is smooth and more laid back the mod makes the mid comes forward.

- The bass is reduced, now i need the large tips to bring out the bass

- The high becomes more pronounced and has more bite

- Sound stage is about the same, but the presentation changes a bit

- The sibilance is more pronounced after the mod

Note that the changes is minor except for the bass, so if you like more forward mid, the mod can do the job.

One bad thing about the mod that made me install back the foam is microphonic, it's gone from quite good to bad.

For modding, i highly suggest needle to take the cap off with needle, just do it slowly and be careful on scratching the IEM body

The cap looks a lot like a bottle cap, so try to pry it off slowly without disfiguring the bottle cap shape too much

The hardest part of the mod for me is when i try to put back the ear wax guard, so if the shape can be maintained the installation and mod reverse will be way way easier

Overall, what makes me really happy with my purchase is the low price tag. Sure, i haven't heard IEM in the upper price ladder, but Piston, though not as refined, is giving me the clarity on par with HD 558 and a much better experience than your IEM that comes in the box, plus it has this convenient remote for my Xperia ZL.
