I have used the Marantz series 8003, 8004 and now am curious about the 8005. Marantz makes a quality product (generally, they had problems with the 8003). My music library is CD, SACD, hi-rez downloads and this product fits in nicely. I also enjoy several streaming audio service including Pandora and MOG (about to be replaced by Beats...well see if this is equivalent) and the Marantz decodes them nicely.
As of about a month of listening now I am quite happy with my SA8005. My second Denon DVD3930 started acting up and I decided to move on to another machine venue before I got too frustrated and decided to go postal on it. It is at least the equal of the Denon if not a tad better in detail. As for my Oppo 95, after playing a CD on the Marantz, I moved it over to the Oppo and was immediately aware of the weight/substance loss. The Oppo, while quite detailed, is just bass shy. Not so the Marantz, or Denon, All the LFs are there. I am not at this time into computer audio so cannot comment there on driver problems. These days I mostly just use the Oppo for video.
One note, on a recording of Philip Glass' Akhnaten by Dennis Russell Davies & Stuttgart State Opera Orch, disc 1 played just fine but the Marantz didn't like disc 2. First t wouldn't recognize disc, then when it did play encountered horrible noises off and on, like it was dirty or something. Cleaned it off and still a problem. Never had any problem playing both discs with any other player. Dunno, the SA8005 just doesn't like that second disc. Arcane mysteries forever hiding in the woodwork of the universe.
