Two sources for One Headphone

I've look around and seen several things, but I'm not sure of exactly what I need. I'd like to find something that will take two Sources ( the headphone jack from an Apple laptop and either an iPhone or iPad). I'd like to listen to sounds from both sources at work and have it portable for use while on the road.

I was thinking that I need a portable mixer, but then started looking at amps. I then got confused and have been driving in circles :)

Any thoughts on my use case and a specific recommendation? Thanks for any help.

a small USB amp/DAC (like the fiio e17) will take either line out (headphone jack, using the Mac DAC) or USB port from your mac (using the Fiio DAC), or line out/LOD from your ipod. and it will sound awesome with any headphone.  any amp with a line out will work as well then you won't need the DAC capability, but it does help with some future proofing and potentially sound quality.  a modern portable headphone amp is cheap, sounds great, tiny, and offers a lot of functionality.

Thanks! A follow-up question: Can I listen to two sources at the same time? For example, I would listen to music or a podcast from one device, but be able to hear system alerts from the other device.

I'm pretty ignorant about macs, but if I use a DAC in windows I can set system alerts to play in any zone I like including the one I'm using (say the headphones) or a different one (say the desktop speakers). If I use the DAC with my phone or ipad the system volume will still come through unless I turn it off

So short answer, yes
